Sermons in Genesis #18- “THE SERMON THAT WILL SOON BE OUTLAWED” Genesis 19:1-11
Intro- Let me begin by saying, the topic I’m preaching on is one of great importance. It is one that everyone needs to hear. It is the subject of Homosexuality. It needs to be addressed because it is being taught in the public schools as “acceptable” and just an “alternative lifestyle”.
- “This chapter in scripture is not for those with weak hearts and stomachs.”
- B.H. Carroll said to his students: “I want you to barely look at what is too foul for public speech.”
- Leupold said: “There is hardly a more horrible account anywhere in the Word of God.
- Martin Luther said: “he could not read this chapter without a feeling of deep revulsion.”
- Griffith Thomas said: “This is one of the most terrible chapters in the Bible and is a reminder of the hideous possibilities of sin.”
As Unpleasant as this chapter is, it must be studied and pondered.
I.THE PERSON OF THE HOST- “Lot”
A. THE RECEPTION BY LOT-
1. Notice WHO he received- “two angels” These were two angels sent to Sodom by God to inspect the city regarding its wickedness.Here were two angels of Light in a city filled with darkness! 2. Notice WHERE he received them- “in the gate of Sodom” That Lot was found here at this gate of wicked Sodom does not speak well of him at all. His presence suggest that he was likely some authority figure here. Some believe that Lot had become the Mayor of Sodom.
Interesting to note is that Lot sat in the gate and Abraham sat in the tentdoor! One is to be commended for his location; the other is to be criticized for his location. At the tent door of Abraham is character; at the gate of Sodom is corruption. At the tent door of Abraham is faith; at the gate of Sodom is foulness. At the tent door of Abraham is protection; at the gate of Sodom is peril. 3. Notice HOW he received them- “Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;” In this we see the Spiritual Coldness of Lot. When Abraham saw them, he “ran” to meet them. Lot saw them coming and remained seated till they got there. When Abraham greeted them, he bowed “himself” toward the ground. When Lot greeted them, he bowed himself “with his face” toward the ground.
B. THE RESPONSE TO LOT-vs. 2 Lot casually invited them to eat dinner. And they declined. Then Lot began to beg them.Vs. 3 says he pressed upon them greatly.
II. THE PURSUIT OF THE HOMOSEXUALS- (vs.4-5)
A. THEIR AGGRESSIVENESS- The so called “men” who came to Lot’s house were extremely aggressive in their pursuit. These “homosexuals were not politely asking for a date; they were blatant in their pursuit. This idea out of Hollywood that homosexuals are passive and polite is a red faced lie! You just watch the news and you will see the vile aggression of this crowd.Just watch their marches and parades! And you will see an evil selfish crowd that has turned away from God. A crowd that is BENT on getting their way or else. They gave No Respect to Lot and His guest.
B. THEIR ASSEMBLY- “ the men of the city,even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:(Genesis 19:4) It wasn’t just ONE homosexual, it was the whole city! Does this sound like a crowd that’s committed to ONE mate “till death do us part”?NO! Why? Because they have an UNSATISFIED SEXUAL APPETITE that will NEVER be satisfied in a thousand partners!
This idea of legalizing gay marriage is only a mirage! They think that if they can just Live together as man & man will just make them so happy is a lie of Satan!
Male Homosexual RelationshipsThe 2003-2004 Gay/Lesbian Consumer Online Census surveyed the lifestyles of 7,862 homosexuals. Of those involved in a "current relationship," only 15 percent describe their current relationship as having lasted twelve years or longer, with five percent lasting more than twenty years.[4] While this "snapshot in time" is not an absolute predictor of the length of homosexual relationships, it does indicate that few homosexual relationships achieve the longevity common in marriages. Source: 2003-2004 Gay/Lesbian Consumer Online Census ·In The Sexual Organization of the City, University of Chicago sociologist Edward Laumann argues that "typical gay city inhabitants spend most of their adult lives in 'transactional' relationships, or short-term commitments ofless than six months."[5] ·A study of homosexual men in the Netherlands published in the journal AIDS found that the "duration of steady partnerships" was18 months. ·In his study of male homosexuality in Western Sexuality: Practice and Precept in Past and Present Times, Pollak found that "few homosexual relationships last longer than two years, with many men reporting hundreds of lifetime partners."
Does this sound like Happiness? Does this sound like Marriage Made In Heaven? III. THE PERVERSION OF THE HOMOSEXUALS (vs. 5) “bring them out… that we may know them” Our text makes it very clear as to the intentions of this crowd. The word “know” means “sexually”. It is the same word used in Genesis 4:1 And Adam “knew” his wife Eve and she conceived… Men with men and women with women is not natural! It’s NOT an Alternative life style! It’s an EVIL Life Style. Leviticus 18:2222Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: itis abomination. Leviticus 20:13 13If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their bloodshall be upon them.(I know what this crowd is saying; that was Old Testament! That was only for Israel.NO! This thou shalt not is for everybody!) Leviticus 18:24-2524Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all thesethe nations are defiled which I cast out before you:25And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.(Not only does this sin make GOD sick; but is makes the earth sick! I know! I know! What some of you are thinking; you need to be nice and LOVE the Sinner! If I DID NOT LOVE YOU, I Would NOT say a word about this! I would skip this chapter like a lot of “spineless” preachers. But because I love my Son & my Daughters I want them to know this Gay Lifestyle is Not Right! God does not condone it. He says it’s an ABOMINATION! It is the sin that is at the bottom of the barrel…)
IV. THE POPULARITY OF THE HOMOSEXUALS The scripture indicates that the practice and acceptance of this sin was popular in Sodom.
A. THEP PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE SIN- “both young and old, all the people from every quarter.”(It seems the whole city was involved in this sin. Did you know that the gay and lesbian community would have you to think they are a Large group? According to the U.S. Census Bureau year 2000; only.70 % of the male population registered as gay. They were out in the street! Openly proclaiming their filthiness.
The Perversion of their Sin! 15Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the timethat I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.(Jeremiah 6:15 )
V. THE PACIFYING OF THE HOMOSEXUALS (vs. 6-8)
A. HIS ATTEMPT WAS USELESS-“brethren, please don’t do this” You do not try to PACIFY evil- You PUNISH EVIL! You can’t have Victory over Sin by trying to NEGOTIATE! What Lot said was MILD.What he should have said was You All Are SICK- I’m a Man and If you don’t get OUT of Here I’m going teach you a lesson you’ll never forget!
Do you think the Stance of most our Presidents for a couple of hundred years is VAIN. The stance that you do not Negotiate with terrorist! “Well If you will leave us alone, we will be friends!” Huh?
B. HIS ATTEMPT WAS UNTHINKABLE- (vs. 8) to offer his daughters? What kind of Sick- Scared- Spineless daddy was Lot? By giving them his daughters, he was signing their death warrants!
VI. THE PERSISTENCE OF THE HOMOSEXUALS- (vs. 9) “Stand back” means“Get Out of Our Way” A. THEIR BEHAVIOR WAS DISTURBING- they were a big disturbance just by showing up! They would have disturbed a whole lot more if the angels had not intervened!( Have you not recognized that this group is agitators? They are not happy unless they are stirring up society!) B. THEIR BEHAVIOR WAS DISRESPECTFUL- they don’t just want their freedoms! Which they have none! But they want the right to speak out against the Christian crowd but they do not want US to speak out against them! C. THEIR BEHAVIOR WAS DESTRUCTIVE- “they came near to break the door”
VII. THE PUNISHMENT OF THE HOMOSEXUALS- (vs. 10-11) A. THE PUNISHMENT WAS DIVINE- God stepped in and intervened! Somewhere along the way, the men of that day were silent to this ungodly sin and did not deal with it, so God did! The same is true in our generation. America is calling for divine judgment to fall. B. THE PUNISHMENT WAS DEFENSIVE- We punish criminals not just to PENALIZE their behavior, but to PROTECT innocent people! IF judgment had not fallen upon those homosexuals, the innocent would have suffered terribly.
C. THE PUNISHMENT WAS DISREGARDED- God smote the men with “blindness” The fact that the door was right in front of them tells me how severe this blindness was! Romans 1:21-3221Because that, when they knew God, they glorifiedhim not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.28And even as they did not like to retain God intheir knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. IF WE FAIL to address this in our generation- then we better start looking for some For & Brimstone Proof Umbrellas! “A MessageThat Will Soon Be Outlawed”
