Module 3: “Totally Equal”

Module 4: Rhetoric and Rhetorical Devices
This module includes attachments. / Students will be able to:
identify rhetoric and rhetorical devices by listening and taking notes. (10.RI.4 and 10.RL.4)
identify rhetorical devices in Obama’s speech and explain how he uses them effectively by watching, listening and working collaboratively. (10.L.5) / Electronic Resources and Alternative Media:

Identifying rhetorical devices in the video of Obama’s speech / Teacher has student take notes on rhetorical devices.
Students watch the speech and identify the rhetorical devices- this can be done whole class, or in pairs with computers.
Module 5: Close Reading Old Major’s Speech

Starting with chunk number one, teacher does guided practice for each chunk until students seem comfortable practicing on their own.
Module 6: Reading Animal Farm, chapters 1-4
