DIRECTOR, BUILDING & LANDSCAPE SERVICES
The University of Iowa department of Facilities Management seeks a Director, Building & Landscape Services to lead the organization in delivering a vision of a highly reliable, customer-oriented and collaborative organization with a focus on effective and efficient operation, servicing and stewardship of campus buildings and grounds. This position is responsible for planning and leading long-range programs for the effective stewardship of general education fund (GEF) buildings and facilities, including custodial care of GEF facilities, optimal operation of building mechanical and electrical systems, energy efficiency, ADA accessibility/compliance issues, life safety and code compliance, repair and replacement of building components, proper preventive maintenance practices, predictive maintenance, continual building assessment program, and execution of strategic investments in renewal and capital projects.
The successful candidate will lead a service organization of 470 FTE, with an operating budget of more than $45 million, providing services within over 12 million serviceable square feet of campus research, teaching, assembly, library and office space, and 860 acres of maintainable landscape zones across three campus areas with 200 acres being intensely maintained urban campus. With a total campus area of roughly 16 million square feet, over 200 buildings and spanning 1900 acres, this position is a champion for staff who work behind the scenes, serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City campus. Responsibilities also include assuring organizational accountability for developing and maintaining a diverse and inclusive work environment, as well as leading organizational efforts to improve workplace safety. The position reports directly to the Associate Vice President and Director of Facilities Management (FM), and is a key member of the collaborative FM senior leadership team as they aggressively pursue departmental strategic initiatives.
Facilities Management is beginning a strategic-based process of implementing transformational changes to the delivery of campus services and the stewardship of its physical assets. Building & Landscape Services is at the center of these changes and the successful candidate will bring creative and innovative analysis and solutions to implement world class maintenance practices, employ efficient and cost-effective custodial and grounds services, and maintain the University of Iowa’s industry leadership position of employing fault detection and diagnostic tools and Big Data analytics to optimize building operations and energy efficiency. Additionally, the director oversees, influences and/or programs approximately $10 to $20 million annually in capital renewal and physical plant reinvestments to ensure long term viability and functionality of campus physical assets.
Qualifications include a Master's degree plus 7-10 years’ experience in facilities management services with administrative responsibility. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also fulfill these required qualifications.
