Sports Premium Spending Review Summer 2015

During the summer term, we have focussed on ensuring a smooth transition to two tier education. This has included a full equipment audit, review of assessment structures, curriculum mapping and plans to aid integration through sport.

Following the equipment audit, it was decided that new bibs were required. These were purchased at a total cost of £62. Further equipment will be required to cater for years five and six next academic year. This will be ordered following receipt of King John School’s PE equipment inventory.

Planning, mapping and assessment have all been undertaken by PE staff alongside our Enhanced Sports Premium Officer (ESPO), who has been working with the school throughout the academic year at a cost of £3,300 (full details of the 1014/15 ESPO package are outlined in the previous spending review). We have signed up to the Corby, Oundle and Thrapston School Sports Partnership (COTSSP) Enhanced + offer for next year – details of this package and final costs will be included in the Autumn 2015 spending review.

As part of the improvement and development of the curriculum, two members of staff received training in ‘Real GYM’, a gymnastics specific add on to the Real PE scheme of work successfully implemented last year. Total cost of training and resources was £400.

The summer term brings with it many competitive opportunities, as well as the chance for enrichment activities. Since Easter, our pupils have competed in archery and hockey, and are scheduled to attend a multi skills festival, athletics and tennis this half term. Transport has been the only cost incurred as participation is part of our COTSSP membership. Total cost of transporting pupils to competition this term is £0, though there is £300 available for this purpose should it be required for upcoming competitions (such as Welland Valley athletics).

To enrich the PE curriculum, pupils have had their annual opportunity to attend Hilltop Outdoor Centre in Norfolk on residential. Additional to this, our year 4 pupils have participated in Premiership Rugby’s “Something to Chew On” programme, which included rugby training and classroom sessions promoting healthy choices, kitchen safety and cooking skills. As a follow on from the school participation in this, our year 4 tag rugby team was invited to play at stadium:MK at half time during Northampton Saints game against Saracens. We were able to develop this further and went on to represent the Saints at Twickenham during the AVIVA Premiership final. We were given an allowance of £320 by Northampton Saints to spend on transport and sundries.
