Sinclair Faculty Recognition Committee
This committee has been formed to oversee faculty teaching awards at Sinclair Community College. The committee is comprised ofSOCHE award recipients from the previous two years and each will serve for two years. This committee will be reviewing the faculty nominations to select the Teaching Excellence Award winners each year.
SOCHE Teaching Excellence Award
Southwestern Ohio Consortium of Higher Education is a consortium dedicated to advancing higher education through active collaboration, resource and knowledge sharing, and effective professional development programs. Each year, SOCHE recognizes up to six faculty for teaching excellence from each member institution. Institutions develop their own processes for selecting award winners.
Sinclair Community College SOCHE Award Eligibility
All tenured or tenure-track faculty, who have completed at least one full year and have not started their fifth year in their faculty position (must be in second, third or fourth year of teaching) are eligible to be nominated by their department chair or the division dean, as applicable. Faculty members are encouraged to recommend colleagues to the chair or dean for this award. Up to one faculty member will be selected from each division.
Nomination Deadline
Nominations must be submitted to the Center for Teaching and Learning in 14-301 no later than 12:00 PM on Friday,March 28, 2014.
Nomination Process
Nominations must be submitted in a labeled file folder, and include the information listed in the nomination form (copy attached). The materials may be clipped together, but not stapled or otherwise fastened together. Electronic submissions will not be accepted.
Interviews
Nominees may be invited to be interviewed at the discretion of the Faculty Recognition Committee.

Nomination Checklist
Please check to affirm that you have complied with the SOCHE procedure.
Completed SOCHE Award Nomination, printed on white 8 1/2- x 11-inch paper and a 12 point font.
A statement of your teaching philosophy
A one-page bulleted list of teaching accomplishments
A bulleted list of conferences/workshops attended and/or facilitated in the past year
A one-page letter from your department chair or division dean answering the question, “How has this faculty member demonstrated EXCELLENCE in teaching?”
Summaries of student surveys from two sections of courses you have taught over the past year
Nomination is submitted in a folder (no notebooks or binders)

- Conferences/workshops
- Support letter
- Student surveys(ONLY two summaries)
I have reviewed my SOCHE Teaching Excellence Award Nomination materials and completed the above checklist. I understand that the SOCHEnomination must be submitted to the Faculty Recognition Committee through the Center for Teaching and Learning,Room 14-301, by 12:00 PM on March 28, 2014. No late nominations are accepted.

Successful nominations for a SOCHE award will be evaluated upon these criteria related to a nominee’s history of teaching service at Sinclair:
- Instructional Approaches
- Applies a teaching philosophy that results in student success
- Encourages student-centered learning
- Encourages cooperation among students to promote learning
- FPRs demonstrate teaching and learning accomplishments
- Appropriately integrates technology into teaching and learning
- General Education
- Includes the college’s general education outcomes in curriculum
- Encourages student critical thinking skills
- Professional Development Related to Teaching
- Models commitment to life-long learning
- Attends teaching conferences or workshops
- Facilitates teaching conferences or workshops, or produces comparable professional writing on teaching and learning
- Assessment and Evaluation
- Fairly measures student learning through multiple evaluation tools
- Uses assessment tools to improve instruction and student learning
- Provides sufficient periodic student feedback to improve learning skills
