- PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Safety is a major issue for rescuers, day laborers and skilled laborers and workers in general. Incidents do occur yearly but responders need to be properly protected for them to rescue others. Accidents happen frequently in the construction industry, manufacturing factories and more often than not it is due to the absence of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or failure to wear the provided PPE. PPE is equipment that will protect workers against health or safety risks on the job. The purpose is to reduce employee exposure to hazards when engineering and administrative controls are not feasible or effective to reduce these risks to acceptable levels. These hazard risks can be anything from wet floors to falling debris and everything in between. PPE includes items such as protective helmets, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear, safety harnesses and, sometimes, respiratory protective equipment. FEDAN FIRE SOLUTIONS LTD has specialized in supply of the following PPE.
- Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Chemical Protective Clothing (CPC)
(1)Level A Protective equipment
To be selected when the greatest level of skin, respiratory, and eye protection is required. The hazardous substance has been identified and requires the highest level of protection for skin, eyes, and the respiratory system based on either the measured (or potential for) high concentration of atmospheric vapors, gases, or particulates; or the site operations and work functions involve a high potential for splash, immersion, or exposure to unexpected vapors, gases, or particulates of materials that are harmful to skin or capable of being absorbed through the skin,
The following constitute Level A equipment; it may be used as appropriate;

Hard hats are designed to protect against flying or falling objects that would otherwise impact or penetrate the worker. Some hard hats are equipped with accessories such as face shields and earmuffs. Hard hats should be well-fitted; those that are too large or too small are inappropriate for use.
- Hand & Skin protection
Many jobs typically require the use of hands hand this exposes hands to injuries. Occupational skin diseases such ascontact dermatitis, skin cancers, and other skin injuries and infections are the second most common type of occupational disease and can be very costly. Quality and appropriate glovesare an essential item in providing skin protection.
- Foot wear

- Eye and Face Protection
Eye and face protection are equally as important as head protection. Safety goggles, spectacles and full face shields can give you the protection needed for the eyes and face. Metal work, wood-work, hot-work and air-tool operations all require this type of protection. General laborers can also benefit from safety goggles since there is usually debris on construction sites.
- Hearing protection
Industrial, plant machines noise, is often discounted as an occupational hazard since it isn’t visible to the eye. Using PPE, and wearing it properly, is vital to avoid unnecessary injury in the workplace. Choosing not to wear PPE can be dangerous especially when it could save your life. Safety is important and having an understanding of these various protection devices can help to prevent hazardous injury.
- Fire blankets
Fire blanketscan also be used to wrap around a person whose clothes are on fire. These fire blankets are suitable to use in a variety of different environments including kitchens, factories, offices, caravans, stores, schools, restaurants, hotels, boats, nursing homes, shops, laboratories, etc.
- Welding blanket and curtain
The welding blankets can protect workers and have the added benefit of shielding flammable materials, machinery, plant and equipment from molten metal globules, spatter, etc.
The welding curtains can be used to isolate an area, so offering protection to workers from welding sparks and light welding spatter and, if correctly positioned, can also assist in the protection of personnel working nearby from arc-eye or weld-flash.

Fire Safety/Building Code of Kenya Compliance Audits
The Building Code of Kenya details the physical aspects required in a building depending on the type of occupancy.
The Building Code of Kenya Compliance Audit will assess the adequacy of the Essential Safety Measures installed against the requirements of the building code of Kenya.
Fire Safety Audits also take into account the building code requirements in terms of a benchmark, and identify site specific concerns which may not be detailed in the code.
These types of audits will identify any non-compliances or specific fire safety risk issues allowing the organisation to rectify these issues in order to achieve compliance with the requirements of the building code of Kenya or reduce the risks on site. Our fire safety auditors conduct premises inspection to ascertain how fire safety is managed. The performance of key element of fire safety management should be periodically audited to ensure continual improvement in the management of fire safety. The emphasis is on an organization to demonstrate that it has fulfilled legal obligation as set out in fire safety legislation.
Benefits
- Highlight any deficiencies in the Essential Safety Measures installed within a building
- Recommendations to address identified deficiencies.
