A LITTLE BIT MORE…

•Students who demonstrate content mastery sooner than others will have fun enrichment activity sheets to do that will increase their Spanish knowledge and curiosity. Activities will include internet scavenger hunts, puzzles, readings, etc.

STANDARDS BASED GRADING SCALE

SCORE / GRADE EQUIVALENT / DESCRIPTION
5- Above Mastery / A+ = 100 / Student exceeds mastery of the learning target, is able to apply understanding beyond what is expected of the learning target.
4- Mastery / A = 92-99 / Student consistently and independently meets all expectations of the learning target and proves mastery of the content.
3 – Approaching Mastery / B = 83-91 / Student is approaching mastery of the learning target, demonstrates understanding of learning target with 1 or 2 minor misconceptions.
2 – Partial Mastery (progressing) / C = 82-74 / Student meets simpler content consistently and has only partial success with learning target content, due to several remaining misconceptions. With help, the student can reach mastery.
1 – No Mastery / F = 73-0 / Student does not meet expectations of the course learning target, demonstrates little or no understanding of the learning target with some major misconceptions.
0 – No attempt / F = no percentage will be entered / Student will be required to complete the assessment before a score is entered.

WHAT DOES STANDARDS BASED GRADING MEAN?

•Bottom line - we want students getting a 74% or higher on assessments to prove mastery.

1

CHECKS FOR MASTERY

•Daily checks for mastery will be done through teacher observation, guided practice, exit slips, polls, and other various formative assessments

RETAKES

•Students are allowed to retake the test as many times as they need to in order to master the content.

•Before doing a retake, students must do extra practice work and show proof by a note from a parent, screen shot of a quizlet test with a 75% or higher, flashcards, writing words, etc.

•Time is allotted at the end of the period most days of the week for retakes, no need to come to school early or stay late

•It is the student’s responsibility to tell me they want to do a retake.

1

UPDATING GRADES

•Weekly updates – usually on Monday

•One grade for each week’s practice/participation

•Practice grade will improve if missing work is turned in

•Retakes – always keep the highest grade

•No late work penalty

FINAL EXAM PROJECT

•At the end of the semester, a final project will be given. The project may be done alone or with a partner/group.

•The project usually consists of a power point and/or video, usually with an audio component to showcase the student’s learning/ability.

•Class time is allowed to do the project. However, due to absences or other unforeseen events, some students may need to do some work at home.
