The Niagara Region has a full-time Contract Manager, Collection Diversion Operationsposition available.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Contract Manager, Collection and Diversion Operations is responsible for managing the collection and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) operations contracts, bylaw enforcement and customer.
Experience, Knowledge and Education:
  • Post-Secondary Degree in Environmental Studies, Business, Geography, or an equivalent field of study. An equal combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • 7 years progressive experience in the operations and/or management of solid waste management systems, including the management of a materials recycling facility and contractor/vendor management.
  • 3 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Municipal sector experience
  • Knowledge of Geoware software program for waste tonnage tracking an asset

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to lead a customer focused team. Strong mentorship, coaching and leadership skills. Must have strong conflict resolution skills and be able to handle difficult or sensitive situations regarding staff, tax payers, stakeholders and politicians
  • Strong skills in the area of developing collaboration around issues and challenges. This would include staff, other regional departments, other external agencies and regional stakeholders.
  • Develop practical yet innovative solutions to waste management collection and diversion operational issues. Demonstrated strategic and creative thinking skills.
  • Strong contract and project management skills, including negotiating, dispute resolution, planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and establish excellent interpersonal relationships with staff, consultants and contractors.
  • Computer literacy with emphasis on word processing, data management and desk top publishing.
  • Strong negotiating, dispute resolution, planning, scheduling, budgeting and project management skills.
  • Superior leadership and supervisory skills to build teamwork within multiple operating areas to ensure high standards of professional service.
  • Knowledge of the waste management industry with particular reference to resource recovery.
  • Thorough working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, process control, mobile equipment and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work with highly controversial and confidential information.
Special Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted Driver G license
Salary range 76,415 - $89,900 per annum
