To kick off National Student Volunteering Week we will be holding an event in Y Plas to get your views on volunteering and showcase some of the amazing volunteering opportunities on offer at the SU and University. There will be free doughnuts for everyone who gives us feedback, a “Buy One Get One Free” Jailbreak ticket special offer (saving you a massive £15!!!) and free tea and coffee … oooh and did we mention the FREE DOUGHNUTS???
Periods ‘n Party
Monday 19th February 19:00 - 00:00 The Lodge, Students' Union
Rounding off the first day of National Student Volunteering Week, Periods in Poverty will be hosting a live music gig in order to raise funds and collect donations for people in hardship. There will be local bands, drinks and GLITTER! Please bring some pals, £3 for entry and physical sanitary products if possible (new and fully packaged please). See you there!

Young Voices
Butetown Youth Forum Resilience Project
Wednesday 21st Feb 9:30 - 14:00
Our partners, Ethnic Minorities and Youth Support Team (EYST) are running a Resilience Project with the Butetown Youth Forum. The event will seek the views of local youngsters on issues such as racism, Far Right extremism, Islamic extremism and sexual exploitation.
EYST need your help on the day with assist with set-up and registration, and to support round-table discussion groups with the young people.
This is a great opportunity to help other young people find their voice. Transport will be provided (meet at the Cardiff Volunteering office at 09.30) Refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Clean Up Cathays
Wednesday 21st Feb 13:30 – 15:00
Join us for the big clean-up of Cathays!
Meet at 13:30 at the back of the Students' Union Building on the grass verge opposite Coffi Co.Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
If you are passionate about the place you live then this is the event for you! You will be a part of a great team of enthusiastic people, including local residents, South Wales Police, Keep Wales Tidy and SU staff. You will receive gloves, a litter picker, and free refreshments.
You don't need to sign up for this event, just come along!
The Walk Of Fame
Safety Walk Scheme Taster Session
Wednesday 21st February 21:00 - 23:00
Student Safety Walk is an amazing student-led project where volunteers assist other students to stay safe and get home safely on SU club nights (Weds and Sat). If you love helping people and would like to see if this project is the one for you then come along to our taster event to see how it works on Wednesday 21st February between 21:00 and 23:00, meeting up at the Cardiff Volunteering office. If you decide to then join the project, you will receive free certified training in First Aid and Conflict Resolution and be provided with branded clothing.
Sort It Out !!!
Thursday 22nd February10:00 – 15:00
Bobath is a Charity that works to improve the lives of children with Cerebral Palsy. They help fund their amazing work through selling donations in a number of local Bobath Charity Shop outlets. This project involves spending the day helping to sort through their main donations storage warehouse in Llanishen: sorting and pricing up the clothes, cleaning and carrying out minor repairs to furniture etc.
A little of your time will make a big difference to this incredible charity! Transport will be provided to and from the event – meet at the Cardiff Volunteering office at 10am. Please wear sensible warm clothing and trainers. Refreshments will be available throughout the day, but lunch will not be provided, so please bring a packed lunch with you.
Paint Party
Friday 23rd February 10:00 - 15:00
Come and join us to help redecorate your local Cathays Community Centre. The Centre is home to lots of great community groups and hosts loads of student society sessions ... butit's in need of a bit of an interior make-over! You don't need to be an expert painter and decorator ... just enthusiastic! A free scrumptious lunch will be provided at the on-site cafe. Please wear old clothes that you don't mind getting messy in. Meet at the Cardiff Volunteering office at 10:00.
Get Down and Dirty!
Global Gardens Community Growing Project

The Global Gardens community growing project is a Trinity Centre Project, providing support and outreach for refugees and asylum seekers in Cardiff and the surrounding area. Through the shared activities of gardening, cooking and eating the aim of the Global Gardens Project is to bring together refugees, asylum seekers and the local community to work together and celebrate ecological and cultural diversity. Your help is needed clearing an area on the Global Gardens allotment in preparation for erecting a polytunnel, creating raised beds and planting up a soft fruit patch. All tools will be available on site, you just need to bring yourself – and some warm clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! Hot drinks and refreshments will be available throughout the day. Transport to and from the site will be provided (meet at the Cardiff Volunteering office at 12.30)
