Let's challenge dementia together!

Take on a challenge of yourchoice to raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland and really Challenge Dementia in Scotland.

Test your physical fitness and endurance with runs, cycles and abseils or test your skillsbyorganising a bake sale or quiz night. Pick one of the challenges mentionedand join the growing number of people in Scotland who have pledged to Challenge Dementia.

Dementia Awareness Week – 30th May – 5th June 2016

90,000 people in Scotland live with dementia and tens of thousands of unpaid carers – usually partners or relations – support people with dementia.

Dementia is a big deal! That’s why we’re encouraging people to challenge dementia during Dementia Awareness Week from 30th May – 5th June.

Here in East Renfrewshire we are having a coffee morning on Saturday 4th Junesupported by the 145th Scouts group and Superjam providers of the tea, jam and cake stands for the event–more details to follow. With other events to create awareness of dementia during this week and get people talking and challenging dementia – please come along and support us!

ToClodagh O’Donnell and the 145th Scout Group. Following our dementia advisor, Richard Leckermans, Dementia Friends Session with 145th Glasgow Scouts, Clodagh pledged to fundraise for our East Renfrew services.
Clodagh played her harp and was joined by her younger sister Shannon, on the violin in The Avenue, Newton Mearns on Saturday 9th April.

Clodagh told us ''I am a member of Giffnock Scouts and as part of our "Million Hands Project" I decided to raise money for Dementia, Alzheimer Scotland East Renfrewshire. Music is a big thing for not just me but also to those who have Dementia as it means a lot to them. I was very interested in this charity and thought it would be a great opportunity for me to play my music and to show people how big music is to those around us”

We would like to thank Clodagh for all her efforts as she raised over a £650.

ToCaitriona Hall and her team who organisedthe ‘Madplanners’ charity night at the GHA Rugby Club.

Tothe Tremendous Treharris Male Choir and the Phenomenal (Glasgow) Philharmonic Male Voice Choir who were also joined by a fantastic flautist.A huge thank you to all who facilitated the ‘Hit the High Note’ event in the United Reform Church in Giffnock on 2nd April, where

the event was well attended, and thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed the evening and for helping raise over £650. A special thanks to Cian who stepped in to volunteer and support our Community Fundraiser. We would like to thank William Barr for organising the event and supporting people with dementia and families in the East Renfrewshire area.

Tothe following local primary and secondary schools for their contribution with participating at " Dementia Friends" sessions -Crookfur Primary, St Johns Primary, St Thomas Primary, St Lukes Primary, Barrhead High School and St. Ninians High School.

Dementia Café News

Musical Minds Singing Group

Why not come along to Clarkston House,57 Stamperland Hill,Glasgow, G76 8AJ and join in with our singing group as well as a cup of tea/coffee and scone, all for £2.00.You will get the chance to get together with other people with early stagedementia and their family members. The singing group takes place on the first Tuesday of each month between 10.30am-12noon. Please see below for a list of future dates:

Barrhead Café Dates

Care Inspectorate

In January 2016, our service received its annual unannounced inspection from the care inspectorate. This was a positive visit and we’re delighted to announce we received the following grades:

Quality of Care & Support score – 6

Quality of Staffing score – 5

Quality of Management & Leadership score - 5

Support costs
