Goals and Objectives of the WYLA Program:

1-4 Grades: Skills, Fundamentals & Fun

5-6 Grades: Team Dynamics & Competition

7-8 Grades: Competitive, Stratification and Preparation for High School Lacrosse

(1) 1st – 5th grades will only have volunteer coaches who may or may not have a player in the program. If there is a special circumstance that arises the board, youth director and assistant youth director may decide to vote on a paid coach.

(2) 6th-8th grades will only have paid coaches in each grade selected by the Youth Director and approved by the Youth Board of Directors. Parent coaches will coach all 1st through 5th grade recreational and travel teams.

(3) Team Selections for 1st – 5thgrade teams shall be made by the youth director. Selection shall be based on the player’s elementary school attended as well as taking into accountany requests that parents have made for a specific coach and/or play with grade level friends.

(5) The league shall hold fall tryouts for selection of a single 4th and 5th grade travel teams. The youth director will evaluate the 4th and 5th grade players and select the players to the team in consultation with the coaches for each specific grade level according to a skills assessment.

(6) The league shall hold fall tryouts for selection of a single 6th grade travel team. The league shall hold Spring tryouts with the goal of creating evenly matched teams. The youth director will evaluate the 6th grade players and evenly distribute the players to their new teams in consultation with the coaches for each specific grade level according to skill. At the end of the 6th grade Spring season, the player’s coaches will give their players an evaluation of the player’s strengths and developmental areas.

(7) 7th and 8th grade team selection will consist of an A team and a B team in the Fall and Spring provided that enough players tryout to fill both teams. If not, there will be an A team and a combined B team of both 7th and 8th grade players. The league will holdtryouts process in which coaches will evaluate players on a predetermined list of criteria (which will be given to players prior to tryouts). At the end of the 7th and 8th grade Spring season, the player’s coaches will provide their players an evaluation of the player’s strengths and areas in which to improve.

(8) Players will only be allowed to play in their current grade level in school. Playing “up” or “down” a grade level is not allowed.This is consistent with the WYLAdevelopment policy.

(9) Players will only be allowed to play for one team in their grade level in the spring recreational league. Playing for two teams in, or outside, a division is not allowed.

(10) The selection of players for Summer travel teams will be made by the Youth Director and in consultation with the coaches for each specific grade level. The selection of Summer travel coaches will be recommended by the Youth Director and approved by the Youth Board of Directors.

(12) Team managers may be assigned by the coaches of the specific team each season. Only a parent of a player on that team may serve as that team’s manager.

(13) Coaches are allowed to hold private or semi-private sessions for free or for a fee for any player as long as that player is not on their team in a current season.

(14) Players, coaches and parents shall sign the WYLA code of conduct at registration or prior to the season in order to participate with any youth team.

(15) Violations of the WYLA code of conduct by, players, parents or coaches shall be discussed by the board before any disciplinary action is decided. If it is decided action must be taken, there will be a vote by the WYLA Board of Directors as to the appropriate action.

(16) Any player that has been suspended or expelled from EISD mayalso be suspended or removed from his lacrosse team. This requires a vote by WYLA Board.

(17) All parents of youth players will receive an end of recreational season survey requesting their feedback related to the goals and objectives of the organization.
