Prison Education, Parenting and Re-entry
Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) School of Law, Languages and Social Sciences and DIT Engineering Sciences & General Studies are delighted to host a half-day conference on 15th October 2015 on research in prison education, parenting and re-entry.
Bill Muth is the keynote speaker and will talk about (a) phenomenological studies of incarcerated men's lived experiences of being fathers in prison and (b) some preliminary policy analyses of present versus future orientations of prison parenting policies (with comparisons between the US and some Nordic countries).
Other speakers will talk about related areas including prison education, families and desistance.
This conference aims to promote and explore together these related fields and brings together practitioners, academics and researchers from different sectors in DIT including criminology and general studies. Recent educational and family initiatives will be outlined. Today we hope to encourage discussion and build networks for future collaboration.
Confirmed speakers and chairpersons include: Bill Muth, Virginia Community University, Dr Mary Rogan, Dublin Institute of Technology, representatives from the Irish Prison Service, Niall Walsh, Pathways CDETB, Catherine Byrne CDETB and DIT
Attendance is free, but places are limited. Registration will be from 1.45pm – 2.00pm. The conference will conclude with coffee and tea and refreshments at 4.00pm..
