SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
Ms. Coleman’s work has focused on community revitalization through human development, economic development, and systems change. She has nonprofit, public and private sector experience both as a researcher and as a practitioner. Her research skills include: qualitative and quantitative research design, interviewing and focus group facilitation. She also has experience in survey design, implementation, data coding and analysis. She uses several data analysis software programs including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Stata. Ultimately, her research skills are used to document, understand, and improve outcomes from programs working at the community and systems levels as well as to help funders understand the impact of their investments.
Her experience as a practitioner involves work to improve the quality of life for people and the places they live. She has helped advocates organize to pass legislation for tools to facilitate economic development in their state. She ran a nonprofit organization that created and implemented a vision to revitalize a commercial corridor and its surrounding neighborhoods. Additionally, she brought local government, community and university leaders together to support programming for youth and elderly citizens.She also helped to build the skills of high school students and prepare them for college.Because of these and other experiences, she currently supports evaluations of investments in human capital development, particularly workforce development initiatives. Her work also evaluates and advises economic development and community building efforts.
