Psychology Syllabus

Course Description:

Psychology is the science that studies human behavior and mental processes. Through the study of Psychology, students will acquire an understanding of and an appreciation for human behavior, behavior interaction and the progressive development of individuals. This will better prepare the student to understand their own behavior and behavior of others.

Grading:

Your grade for each grading period will consist of several exams, projects, daily grades, and homework assignments.

Grade Scale:

A 90-100

B 80-89

C 70-79

F below 70

Daily Assignments - 50%

This will include daily classroom assignments, homework and classroom participation. Homework is to prepare you for in class assessments. Homework will be collected at the beginning of class. Anything turned in after the beginning of class will be considered late. Late daily assignments may be turned in at the beginning of the next class for ½ (50%) credit. All daily work will be scored as zero credit thereafter.

If you miss school and the absence is excused it is your responsibility to check with me before or after class regarding any assignments missed. If you fail to check with me and you missed only 1 day and come to me 2 or more days later for the assignment you will receive a 0. Late make up work will not be accepted. For example: If you miss school on Monday, 8/20 and come back with an excused absence on 8/21 then any homework given 8/20 will be due on 8/22. Unexcused absences will result in an automatic 0.

Assessments - 50%

  • Chapter exams will usually consist of 20-40 questions
  • Random quizzes
  • Classroom projects
  • Data based questions (DBQ)

Extra Credit:

There will be opportunities for extra credit throughout the school year. I will announce these during class and will give you a description of the assignment. If you are unhappy with your grade please see me before or after class or school. Together we will find ways for you to be more successful in this class.

Due to the nature of the class some visual and audio clips may contain offensive language or material. By signing the syllabus you are agreeing to your child participating in activities where this material may be used to enhance the learning experience. If you are uncomfortable with your child watching this movie or being exposed to any video or audio clips with offensive language or that may be rated R please make a note of it on the signature form below. Thank you.

  1. Be respectful
  2. Come to class prepared
  3. Be in class and seated before the designated start time (there will be an assignment “Bellringer” on the board for you to complete)
  4. Do not leave until you are dismissed by the instructor
  5. Include following all rules in Code of Conduct

Cheating:

DON’T DO IT!!!

If a student is found to be guilty of academic dishonesty on a test, quiz, homework assignment/other assignment for credit, he/she will receive a “0,” be referred to the office, and the parent/guardian notified.
