SUBJECT: Kentucky Envirothon 2018

The Kentucky Envirothon Committee is planning the Kentucky Envirothon 2018. The overall winning team will represent Kentucky in 2018 North American Envirothon at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho July 22-July 26, 2018. The top FFA team will represent Kentucky in the National FFA Environmental/Natural Resource Career Development Event in Indianapolis, IN.

There will be two regional competitions this year.

West: April 20, 2018 – Warren County

East: April 28, 2017 –Laurel County

State: May 16-17, 2018- 4-H Leadership Training Center in Jabez, KY

If you cannot make the date your regional is scheduled, and you need to reschedule please submit a request in writing to the Kentucky Envirothon Committee. In your request, please state justification for considering your request. Any changes must be approved in advance. This will help us in planning each competition. All requests for change must be in by April 1, 2018.

Each regional competition will be held in one day. Students will be tested on five (5) sites (testing areas). These are soils, forestry, wildlife, water, and the Current Issue for 2017
is “Western Rangeland Management." Teams that score 325 points or more will advance to the state competition. There is no limit to the number of teams that will compete at the State Envirothon. The Kentucky State Envirothon will include these sites as well as an oral presentation and will involve staying overnight. The oral competition will be on the current issue.

Members will be allowed to use binoculars to assist them with the tree identification portion of the forestry exam, if they choose.

Team registration fees are based on the date registered.

·  Prior to December 31, 2017: $100

·  January 1 - February 29: $150

·  March 1-March 31: $200.

No registrations will be accepted after March 31. Team rosters must be turned in on the day of the regional competition. A team may compete with 3 to 5 students in the regional competition. The team's roster includes five (5) team members and two (2) alternates. Five (5) students must compete at the Kentucky Envirothon for the team to be eligible for awards. Alternates are allowed to compete as long as the Kentucky Envirothon Committee approves them. You may bring your alternates to the regional competition, but they are not allowed with the team during the test. Teachers/Advisors will be responsible for the alternates, and teams will be responsible for the added expense for alternates. Schools may have more then one team.

Registration fee IS REQUIRED FOR REGIONAL COMPETITION ONLY.
