Agenda

  • PHR/Mobile Use Cases of interest: Ed Hammond
  • Begin review of PHR/mobile issues from PHR-S Functional Model Reference chapter

Meeting Minutes

Ed Hammond was introduced and he described his general concerns around the interface between PHR/mobile, believing where a mobile device is used drives key use cases—e.g., being at a provider appointment and in real-time being able to say what medications/doses one is currently taking.

The group speculated on other issues/use cases where mobile has an impact on PHRs. Elaine made a point to say issues around functionality/content and data use/transport should both be addressed. In context of the use case discussion, the following areas were highlighted as needing special focus:

  • SMS messaging
  • Camera use
  • Geo Location functions
  • Near Field Communications capabilities
  • Data capture and transmission devices attached to mobile devices (e.g., blood sugar, blood pressure, weight)
  • Device reliability
  • Context of using services and transmitting data

We began to review a portion of Chapter 5 of the PHR-S Functional Model, recently balloted through HL7, which addresses mobile/PHR concerns. We looked at the first four sections, beginning on page 6:

  • PHR Relationship to Mobile Devices
  • Trustworthiness of Mobile Device Information Sources
  • Possibility of Consumer Alteration of Professionally Sourced Data
  • Possibility of Other Alterations of Professionally Sourced Data

In reviewing these areas and brainstorming possible use cases, the group did not see significant differences between PC-based and mobile-based PHRs.

Our next meeting was set for Monday, October 29. We will not meet the week of October 22.

Meeting ended at 5 PM.
