The College of Education at Michigan State University is pleased to invite applicants for the Dean's Scholarshipfor Undergraduate Study Abroad(hereafter,Dean’s Scholarship).The purpose of thisscholarship is to further Michigan State University’s mission ofadvancing knowledge and transforming lives by providing the knowledge and skills that will enable future educators and researchers to critically examine and apply solutions to challenging educational issues, locally and globally. College of Education study abroad experiences are intended to result in the integration of international perspectives into students’ academic programs and to inform their subsequent work in diverse contexts.

TheDean’s Scholarshipwill provide support to undergraduatesenrolled in College of Education credit-bearing study abroad programsin the summer or fall of 2015. The scholarship will significantly lower the cost barrier of study abroad and enable the engagement ofstudents in powerful learning experiences that lead to greater understanding of diverse peoples and cultures. Three scholarships of $3,300 each will be awarded to help students cover expenses that exceed on-campus costs related to their chosenCollege of Education study abroad program.

Eligibility:Undergraduatemajors in the College of Educationwho are in good academic standingare eligible to apply. Students must be accepted toa credit-bearing, College of Education study abroad program, actively participate in all pre-departure orientations, and be available to present their learning experiences at one post-program event in East Lansing, MI;exact date and timeto be determined.

Instructions:A complete application consists of:

  1. The completed application form (below)
  2. An electronic or hard copy of your most recent MSU student transcript

Submission:You may submit your application in one of two ways:

  1. Via email, send to with “Your First/Last NameDean’s Scholarship” in the subject line. Example - “Mary Smith Dean’s Scholarship”; or,
  2. Bring twohard copies to the Office of International Studies in Education (Erickson Hall, room517) and leave them with Christine Caster.

Deadline for application submission: January 31, 5:00 p.m., 2015

Selection:All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee convened by the Office of International Studies in Education. Semi-finalistapplicants will be invited to an interview sometime in February, 2015. Recipients of the Dean's Scholarshipwill be notified by March 5, 2015. Final disbursement of award is pending acceptance and enrollment into a College of Education study abroad program.

Note: Applicants receiving federal financial aid for the summer term should be aware that receipt of an award may impact their total financial aid package based on financial need as demonstrated by the student FAFSA. Applicants may consult with the Office of Financial Aid in order to learn more possible changes to their aid package if they receive a Dean's Scholarship.
