Executive Assistant needed for National Public Affairs Issue Strategies Group Under Ex-Clinton & Congress Communications Director

Executive Assistant needed 2-3 days a week to manage home office and assist a former White House public affairs director, Robert Weiner, now president of Robert Weiner Associates Public Affairs and Issues Strategies and Solutions for Change. Applicant must have car; office is 20 minutes outside DC. You’ll be helping develop public affairs strategies for national issues and organizations including members of Congress, national consumer attorneys’ groups, world and U.S. sports agencies, health care advocates, efficient national security systems, national drug policy/criminal justice experts, progressive Democratic political organizations, and others.You’ll also help spearhead op-ed columns in top papers and arrange interviews on radio-TV networks and shows. You’ll also help develop fundraising strategies for nonprofit progressive journalism foundation, Solutions for Change, which Bob created, encouraging young journalists to write opeds and have policy impact.

Robert Weiner Public Affairs President, Bob Weiner, served in the Clinton White House as a director of public affairs from 1995-2001. He has been senior staff for U.S. Congressmen John Conyers (D-MI), Charles Rangel (D-NY), Claude Pepper (D-FL), Ed Koch (D-NY), and the Presidential and Senate campaigns of Ted Kennedy (D-MA). He was National Youth Vote Director for the Democratic National Committee, at the Watergate, after 18-20 year-olds got the vote.Weiner directed the Daily Press Briefing Room and organized at the 2012 and 2008 Democratic National Conventions and directed the General Press Room at five previous Democratic National Conventions.

We have had over 300 published in top papers including theWashington Post,Washington Times, New York Times, Washington Times, Miami Herald, Baltimore Sun, Palm Beach Post, Des Moines Register, New York Post, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Chicago Sun-Times, Denver Post, Cleveland Plain Dealer, San Diego Union-Tribune, and many others; and arranged over 2000 radio and television shows.
Specific duties include:

  • Present stories to media (calling, faxing, and e-mailing)
  • Coordinate press conferences and events at the National Press Club and National Democratic Club
  • Edit op-eds and press releases
  • Internet research (find media and government contacts, statistics, news coverage)
  • Administrative tasks: Answer phones, track expenses, prepare invoices, mail merge (Excel to Word), answer emails, maintain filing system, order office supplies, maintain computer/internet network
  • Manage interns and staff

Qualifications:

Prior media/communications/IT experience preferred

Some college preferred.
