Snack

Due to our late lunch time, please include a quick grab and go snack in your child’s lunch box. Please keep the snacks simple and sticky free.

Agendas & Take Home Folders

Please be sure to read and sign your child’s agenda every night. Have your child bring his/her agenda and Take Home folder to school each day. This is a valuable tool for communication between home and school. Also, feel free to leave notes for me inside your child’s agenda. Absent/parent pick-up notes, however, should be written on a separate sheet of paper so they can be sent to the office.

Parent Volunteers/Chaperones

I encourage all parents to attend one of the Volunteer Training workshops offered throughout the county this fall. You can find a list of dates, times, and locations in the monthly school newsletter. Your training will last for one year and must be completed at least 7 days before volunteering or chaperon selection takes place.

Field Trips

We will be taking several field trips throughout the year. As the date of the field trip approaches, you will receive a permission slip and a school lunch order form. Please be sure to include the appropriate field trip payment with the signed permission slip. Also, if you wish to chaperone any field trips, you must have attended the volunteer training course for this school year!

Behaviors

In all classrooms, positive behavior is both encouraged and rewarded. We will follow the school-wide 4R program, using 4R coupons when students are caught being “On track”; responsible, respectful, ready and rethinking. “Off track” is when a student continues to make poor choices after a redirection. They will have a time out in the classroom and complete an orange think sheet, which must be signed and returned to school. Students who continue to misbehave and/ or have a more serious behavioral issue will be sent to the support room.

Homework Policy

Homework is an important part of your child’s education. It is meant to support and extend what your child has learned in school that day. If your child does not have his/her homework at school at the time it is due, he/she will complete a missing homework letter stating what assignment is missing and the reason for not having it. Also, any incomplete class work that is sent home in the Take Home folder is expected to be completed in addition to homework, and returned the next day.

Scholastic Book Orders

I will be sending home Scholastic Book Orders sporadically throughout the year. You may either return the cut-off portion of the order form with payment in the form of a check written to Scholastic (NO CASH PLEASE!) and I will place it for you. Or you may choose to order your books on-line using a credit card. Each book order will have a specific “due” date. Most book orders will arrive in less than two weeks after the orders are due!

!

Star Student

Starting in October, each week one student will be chosen to be the Star Student. At that time, they bring in a collection that is important to them to share with the class. This may include special toys, favorite books, a family photograph, or anything else that can be transported easily to and from school. Star Students are asked to bring in their collections on Mondays along with the completed Star of the Week forms.

Birthday Celebrations

Due to the high number of food allegories, students will no longer be permitted to bring in specials treats to share for their birthdays. Students’ birthdays are recognized in the classroom, on the daily news and they are given a birthday book from the PTA.

Communication

Grade level newsletters will be sent home monthly to let you know what your child will be learning. Parent letters will be sent home prior to beginning a math unit to help explain each unit. Helpful web videos for math concepts taught throughout the year can be found on the CCPS website quick links. If you have a concern you are welcome to jot a note in your child’s agenda, call school before, after school or during specials or e-mail. We will do my best to get back to you promptly.

Thank you for your support and cooperation!

I am looking forward to a fun, successful school year!
