JOB DESCRIPTION
POST TITLE: Nurse
LOCATION: Selly Wood House
DEPARTMENT: Supported Housing
RESPONSIBLE TO: Deputy Manager
JOB CONTEXT:
A. To ensure that Selly Wood House provides the highest standard of nursing care and support to residents i.e.
a. To meet the clinical care requirements of residents
b. To assess residents, plans, implement care, provide advice, maintain associated records
c. To carry out nursing procedures
B. To provide clinical and supervisory leadership to senior carers, to ensure effective service delivery
C. To ensure that Selly Wood House operates within prescribed working practices.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) To set and maintain a high standard of nursing care and support to residents in the home.
2) To ensure care plans detail the clinical care needs of residents and all necessary risk assessments related to each individual.
3) To provide leadership and supervision to staff identified by the Registered Home Manager and as shown on the accountability charts.
4) To ensure that BVT policies and procedures are adhered to within the defined timescales.
5) To ensure the supply, recording and administration of medication is in line with prescriptions, legislation and professional codes of conduct, complying with the NMC and CQC standards.
6) To maintain up to date knowledge of relevant medical conditions and ensure this is cascaded to staff, residents and relatives as appropriate.
7) To ensure effective oversight of care records and follow up concerns in line with procedures.
8) To promote and maintain a safe environment for residents, visitors and staff, especially for those at high risk, for example through increased risk of falls.
9) To ensure competency and safe maintenance of all medical devices, reporting and following up any broken / unsafe equipment or structures to the manager as necessary.
SERVICE SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:
1. To work within the NMC Codes of Professional Conduct and latest professional guidelines.
2. To implement the home’s policies and procedures and propose changes to practices and procedures arising from audits, complaints etc.
3. To implement, promote and maintain care for the residents on a daily basis and deliver agreed standards of care with other members of the team.
4. To take the lead in a key area of clinical practice within the home e.g. dementia care, tissue viability, coaching of nursing and care staff in relation to areas of service.
5. To liaise with GPs and other professionals.
6. To develop and promote good communication with residents, relatives and staff.
7. Ensure that care is resident focused and that the residents’ dignity and privacy are maintained at all times.
8. To handle complaints appropriately in accordance with the policies and procedures laid down by the Home.
9. To participate in any Clinical Audit / Quality Assurance programmes within the home and assist with the evaluation of own practice.
10. To work collaboratively with team members to achieve best practice at all times.

External: Members of the multi-disciplinary team, Health Authority, CQC
WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT:
The post is situated within the Selly Wood House. However you may be required to work from other sites and places where your professional attendance is required.
You will be required to work evenings and weekends where necessary.
Your hours of work will be around a flexible rota to meet the needs of the service.
