HOURS: 12.00 TO 1.30PM, MONDAY TO FRIDAY, TERM TIMEONLY

Purpose of Job

To supervise pupils during the midday break from the end of the morning session to the start of the afternoon session.

To seek and ensure the safety and welfare of all pupils on the school site during the midday break.

Main Duties

General

To participate in a flexible rota of staff to ensure that there is adequate and appropriate supervision of children at all times during the lunch period
To maintain contact with teaching staff and liaise about specific problems that may occur during the period with particular individuals or situations
To implement the School’s Behaviour and Discipline Procedures and Policies – including completion of records as required
Ensure that any information obtained about children remains confidential to the school
Report any matters relating to child protection issues to directly to the Headteacher
To tend to any unwell children and administer basic first-aid
To relay any parental concerns to the Headteacher or deputy
To positively promote the school within the community
To be correctly dressed to ensure that children are aware that midday supervisors have key roles to play at Creswick
To participate in appropriate training and attend meetings
To promote and encourage good behaviour and discipline during the lunchtime break and to participate in the development of related policies

To ensure that the school’s policies on equal opportunities are implemented, including gender, religious and racial equality
To carry out a range of duties requested by the senior supervisor/deputy or head.

Supervision

To patrol the school grounds to ensure that children are safe; including field, footpaths, tarmac grounds and classrooms
To promote safe movement around the site when children move in and out of the dining room and onto the playgrounds
To ensure that all children are outside, weather permitting
If indoor break is essential: ensure adequate and appropriate quiet activities are in place; ensure all classrooms are supervised
To liaise with class teachers as necessary
To maintain an acceptable standard of conduct and discipline amongst pupils, reporting serious breaches of discipline or persistent unruly behaviour to the senior midday supervisor/deputy head
To supervise the conduct of queues waiting to enter the dining room
To ensure that all children have had lunch
To deal with any minor accidents as they arise
To take appropriate action over more serious accidents, including reporting them to the Headteacher or deputy in the headteacher’s absence
To fill in the accident report book and forms as necessary

To support children’s play by

Ensuring no one group takes over the whole play area (eg football)
Promoting games that children might play
Ensuring that any equipment used is returned to the storage bins provided
Promoting positive relationships between pupils and pupils
Promoting positive relations between pupils and staff and other adults
Ensuring all children are gainfully occupied when they have to stay indoors during inclement weather
Dealing with any incidents of indiscipline in a calm manner and in line with school policy

Dining Room Supervision

Water and cups are available

Children enter and leave the room in a calm manner

Noise levels are kept as low as possible

Children select food they will eat

Once seated, children remain in their seats until they have finished their eating

Packed lunch leftovers are returned home

Packed lunch meals comply with school rules – no chocolate bars or fizzy drinks. - any such items should be reported to the Headteacher.

Tables, chairs are kept clean.

Plates and cutlery are returned to the kitchen

Tables and chairs are washed clean at the end of the service and chairs stacked on tables

Children remove coats and hats whilst eating

Children develop good table manners

Join other colleagues in supervisory roles outside of the dining room as soon as is practicable.
