CAOLA
Mrs. Dickerson Room: Temple 234
The Capital Area Online Learning Academy (CAOLA) is a tool that allows students at CASA to take a variety of courses. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you begin your CAOLA course for the quarter, semester, or year:
· Students are expected to follow the behaviors outlined by CASA’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) Matrix.
· A few laptops are available, which will be assigned as needed. They must be returned at the end of the class period. Place the laptop on its numbered shelf and plug in the power cord. Students are encouraged to bring personal laptops or tablets. Inform Mrs. Dickerson when something is wrong with a CASA laptop.
· Students are expected to work on the CAOLA course that is assigned to them during the class period, according to their schedule. Once your quarterly work is complete, the class period may be used as a study hall.
· Students are expected to complete at least 1 lesson of their CAOLA course during each class period. Mrs. Dickerson will visually check each student’s progress daily. Note: this progression might not get a student through the entire CAOLA quarterly Part by the Marking Period deadline. Each student must monitor their own overall progress.
· Communicate with your CAOLA teacher, Mrs. Dickerson, and Mrs. Baker if you have questions or concerns about your CAOLA work.
o Content questions: email your CAOLA teacher
o CAOLA Functioning questions: ask Mrs. Dickerson or email Mrs. Baker ()
o All emails should start with a greeting, end with a closing, and contain the subject line “First Name Last Name, Subject, CAOLA Question”
· Frequent lack of progress will result in parent contact and suspension of CASA privileges, such as field trips or guest artist performances.
o Students must be within 5 lessons of “on pace” in each CAOLA class.
o Eligibility will be determined 2 weeks prior to Field Trips and 1 week prior to Guest Artist Workshops.
o Refunds will not be provided for students who are ineligible.
Specific Classroom Expectations
· Students are expected to follow the behaviors outlined by CASA’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) Matrix.
· Arrival and Dismissal: Arrive on time or with a signed pass; Mrs. Dickerson will tell you when to pack up and will dismiss you. Keep working until that time.
· Food and Drink: Water in a closeable container and snacks provided by Mrs. Dickerson are the ONLY food and drink allowed.
· Phones: Allowed; frequent inappropriate use will result in confiscation
· Headphones: Allowed; frequent inappropriate use on phone or computer will result in confiscation
· Restroom: One person at a time. Ask Mrs. Dickerson every time. Sign out/Sign in on the back board. Use the plastic pass found on the back board.
A Few Deadlines
(Assume these will not change, even if CASA is closed due to inclement weather)
· Quarter 1(1 CAOLA Part):
o 50% complete by Thursday September 28
o 100% complete by Wednesday November 1
· Quarter 2 (1 CAOLA Part):
o 50% complete by Monday December 11
o 100% complete by Monday January 22
· Quarter 3(1 CAOLA Part):
o 50% complete by Monday February 26
o 100% complete by Wednesday April 4
· Quarter 4(1 CAOLA Part):
o 50% complete by Monday May 7
o 100% complete by Monday June 4 for Seniors
o 100 % complete by Wednesday June 6 for Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen
· More Frequent and Specific On-Pace Goals will be provided on the front board
