STEPS FOR OBTAINING A 50/50 LICENCE

  1. Go to and follow the following steps:
    click on Gaming Licenses
    click on Raffle
click on Licensing and Eligibility Forms
click on Eligibility for Raffle License for $10,000 and Less (this is a PDF form)
  2. Fill out form and fax to the Edmonton number that is listed on this form.
  3. Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission will review this form and when approved will fax or send you back a copy of your form with it stamped from Gaming. THIS IS NOT YOUR LICENCE. THIS JUST GIVES YOU THE OK TO GO GET A LICENCE FROM A REGISTRY.
  4. Go to your local Registry with the following information:
Approved “Eligibility For Raffle License” from Edmonton
    The date(s) and time(s) of the draw(s)
The purchase price of each ticket (for example: 1 for $1, 3 for $2, or 10 for $5) and the percentage to be awarded as a prize (which of course is 50%)
The method by which the draw(s) will be announced and the location of the announcement
Number of tickets printed for each event (different colors). (I was told last year that I needed one roll of tickets for 1 for $1, one roll for 3 for $2, one roll for 10 for $5 in order to be able to properly account for the money. Now this may or may not be the case as I know other teams only had one ticket roll but it was required for me last year).
Method by which the prize will be paid (cash or cheque)
The time limit for the ticket buyer to claim a prize (a time limit less than 10 min requires AGLC approval)
Procedure for identifying an alternate winner if a winner cannot be located within the time limit for claiming prizes specified above
The means by which a winning ticket buyer will be awarded the prize on the last day of the draw; and
a contact name and telephone number in the event of a complaint or a dispute
THEN THE REGISTRY WILL THEN ISSUE YOU A LICENCE AND IT COSTS AROUND $30-$40 TO PURCHASE.
  5. Your License then should be given to the Raffle Coordinator and make sure it is kept with the Raffle Coordinator when selling 50/50 tickets.
You will also get an official Raffle Ticket Inventory Control sheet, which also needs to be filled out on the day of 50/50 sales. This Raffle Coordinator will sign and date the control sheet to verify the amount of cash, unsold tickets and ticket stubs received.
The resulting cash amounts will be handed over to the Treasurer for deposit to the raffle account with the Treasurer signing and dating the record sheet to evidence receipt of the ticket monies recorded.
