1. ABSTRACT
Authors are requested to submit an abstract for the SECED Young Engineers Conference - 2013. The abstract including figures, tables, and references should have a minimum length of half page and must not exceed one page. The Abstract has to be written in English with a Times New Roman 11 points font single spaced. The Abstract must contain the full name and the email address of the author/s.
Abstracts should briefly outline the main features, results and conclusions as well as their general significance and should contain relevant references.
2. TABLES
Tables should be numbered consecutively throughout the chapter. Please be consistent when formatting tables. Leave one blank line before the table heading and one blank line after the table.
Table 1 Data for beams under dynamic loading
Material / Deflection x / Deflection y
Concrete beams / 0.234mm / 0.523mm
Steel beams / 0.197mm / 0.432mm
3. ILLUSTRATIONS, DIAGRAMS AND PHOTOGRAPHS
Illustrations are to be centred, with the reference and caption printed below the figure. The lettering used in the illustrations should be legible. Illustrations are to be referred to as figures, and must be cited in the text in the form ‘Fig. 1’. One blank line should be left between the figure caption and the next paragraph. Please ensure that figures are of the highest quality and keep them as simple as possible. Avoid excessive notes. Photographs should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

4. EQUATIONS
Leave one blank line above and below any equation. Equations should be centred, and the equation reference right justified. Equations should be numbered consecutively and referred to in the text in the form ‘Eqn. 1’.
X = 2y + 1 (1)
Equations should be typed and all symbols should be explained within the text of the paper.
REFERENCES
The references heading is to be in bold and caps, but not numbered.
For cited journals the format is:
Author name/s (year). Paper title, Journal title Journal volume: issue, pages.
Murakawa, H., Ueda, Y. and Xiang, D. (1995). Effect of fluid force acting on colliding body upon damage given to offshore structures, Journal of Constructional Steel Research 33:3, 259-281.
For books the format is:
Author name/s (year). Book title, publisher, place of publication.
Oehlers, D.J. and Bradford, M.A. (1995). Composite Steel and Concrete Structural Members,
Pergamon, Oxford, U.K.
When making a reference in the text to a published work, refer to it by enclosing the last name of the author and date of publication in parentheses, e.g. (Murakawa et al., 1995) (Oehlers and Bradford, 1995), or, if part of text, “Oehlers and Bradford (1995) describe…”. All references should be cited in the text.
