1. SPRING BAND CONCERT: The band’s annual spring concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 10th at 7:00pm in the High School Auditorium. The concert this year will feature the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Disney Trip Photos and Senior Awards. All colorguard seniors will also receive their plaques during senior band awards.
DRESS REHEARSAL: The dress rehearsal for the spring concert will be on Wednesday, May 9th at 6:00pm. This is a mandatory rehearsal, so please clear your calendars to make sure you are able to attend! It shouldn’t take long and I think concert band members should be done by 7:30 at the latest – we will also collect your band uniforms this night.
Dress for the concert is as follows: GUYS – dark slacks, shoes, socks, a white dress shirt and tie. GALS – a nice dress, skirt/blouse combination, or a nice pants outfit. Please use good judgment and look professional.
2. BAND UNIFORM RETURN – WEDNESDAY, MAY 9TH : We will collect everyone’s band uniform during the night of the band’s dress rehearsal – WEDNESDAY, MAY 9TH from 6pm to 7:30pm. We are collecting everyone’s uniform and sending them out for cleaning over the summer. Please bring along a payment of $7.50 per uniform. Checks can be made payable to OJR MPO.
3. DISNEY TRIP WAS GREAT: My thanks to everyone for making our band trip to Disney a great one. All of you represented OJR with pride and distinction and met all of my expectations for maturity and professionalism throughout the trip. Thanks especially to all adult chaperones for your assistance over the five days. If any of you are interested in ordering the group photo in front of the castle in the Magic Kingdom, you can go to this website: www.disneyphotopass.com Once there, you need to create an account for yourself (very simple) and then enter the following code: LTMB C9D7 G7L7 M69V You can view all of the group photos that were taken from the Disney photographers and then add your own boarders, etc.
4. GRADUATION: OJR Senior Graduation is scheduled for Friday, June 8th. The band plays an important role in the graduation ceremony and your attendance that night is critical and expected. Reporting time for all band members is 5:30pm. We should be finished around 8:30pm that night. Dress is the same for graduation as for the concert (see #1 above).
5. INDOOR PERCUSSION & COLORGUARD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Good Luck to the OJR Indoor Percussion and Colorguard Units at their 2012 Championships in Wildwood, NJ May 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Both groups have an amazing show this year and the students involved have worked very hard. There will be a “preview night” May 2nd at 8:00pm in the middle school gymnasium and everyone is invited out to see the shows before they head off to Wildwood!
6. PASTA DINNER: Our pasta dinner was a huge success. Between 400 and 500 dinners were served that night and it was a great night for our music program. Many thanks to everyone who came together to make the night successful. Special thanks to Mrs. Diann Westlake and Mrs. Diane Knight for their hard work in organizing this event!
7. ALL-STATE BAND CONGRATULATIONS: Four members of our band (the most ever) have qualified for the Pennsylvania All-State Band festival which will be held in Lancaster in April. This is the highest honor for any student musician in Pennsylvania. Congratulations to Hali Strickler, Amanda Ficca, Kristin Jannotti and Eddie Meyer.
