Appendix

  • This Scope and Sequence assumes 3 periods of PDHPE per fortnight with the format of two theory/one practical lesson fortnight alternating with a one theory/two practical lesson fortnight.
  • Each lesson is 60 minutes in length.

Unit Summaries

Year 7 – Changes and Challenges

Students learn about the changes and challenges they will face in the near future as they approach adolescents, they will begin to learn to understand who they are as an individual and they will learn how to seek help with common problems they will face in life.

Year 7 – Defining Health

Students learn what being healthy means, they learn about the different sides of health and how to acquire it. Students will learn how to have a balanced lifestyle.

Year 7 – All About Food

Students will learn about having a balanced diet and what different foods can do to us. They will begin to understand how diet teamed with regular exercise can assist in living a healthy physical life.

Year 8 – That’s Amore

In this unit students learn how to be an active and positive member of relationships. They learn to become more self-aware and develop their communication skills. They also learn about how to manage the use and abuse of power in relationships.

Year 8 – I’m a Big Kid Now

Students learn about the changes that they will begin to experience in the upcoming years and the new things that these young people will be faced with that come with these changes such as drug use and sexual health. Young people find how to access community health initiatives that help them with these issues.

Year 8 – Risky Business

In this unit students learn strategies to identify, manage and protect themselves from dangers presented on the road, in water and in sports.

Year 7/8 – Let’s Get Physical

The purpose of “Let’s Get Physical” is to integrate physical activity outcomes from Strand 2 and 4 into the other three units for year 7. For example linking Year 7s “Defining Health” unit with physical activity exercises such as team sports. “Let’s Get Physical” will also link with events on the yearly High School Calendar such as period of Athletics in preparation for the Athletics Carnival.
