YAIA Youth Hockey
Tournament Rules and Procedures
- All games will be played under USA Hockey rules and as modified under SDAHA Playing Rules and YAIA Tournament Director
 - All games will be played at Kiwanis Ice Arena
 - Tournament will be played during designated weekend, games will not carry over into additional days.
 - Participants and Matchups will be determined by the YAIA Tournament Director
 - Each team will have a representative to the arena at least 1 hour before the start of their 1st game to provide the YAIA Tournament Director with the following documentation:
 - Official team registration
 - Official team roster
 - Signed by each team member
 - Approved by USA Hockey registrar
 - Maximum 20 players per roster
 - All players are to be dressed and ready to play 15 minutes before game start time. Games may start early if possible.
 - Each player must wear HECC approved helmets with face guards strapped properly and fastened and have colored mouth guards in place while on the ice.
 - No more than 4 coaches allowed on the bench during a game
 - All games will be officiated by USA Hockey registered referees
 - All decisions by the referees are final, no protests are allowed. The YAIA tournament director and/or associate director will have the final authority in all disputes.
 - Absolutely no fighting will be tolerated. Any player ejected for fighting is disqualified for the entire tournament
 - Any spectator yelling obscenities at the players, referees, and/or coaches will be removed from the arena for the remainder of the tournament.
 - First team listed on game matches is the Home team, Home team wears light jersey color.
 - Game time
 - Varsity/Jr Varsity
 - 17 minute periods with Zamboni between each period
 - Zamboni after game completion
 - Bantam and Pee Wee
 - 15 minute periods with Zamboni between 2nd and 3rd period, 5 minute break between 1st and 2nd periods
 - Zamboni after game completion
 - Squirts
 - 15 minute run-time periods, 2 minute break between periods
 - Zamboni after game completion
 - Mites
 - Two 14 minute run-time periods, clock will be stop every 2 minutes to switch players, 2 minute break between periods
 - Zamboni after game completion
 - Bracketed Tournament format
 - Team seeds determined by tournament director
 - Tournament game regular time tie
 - 5 minute break before overtime
 - 5 minute, “sudden death”, run time
 - 1 minute break between overtime periods
 - 5 minute, “sudden death”, run time
 - Repeat items iii and iv until goal scored
 - Ice will not be conditioned between overtime periods unless directed by referees
 - Championship game, regular time tie
 - Use same overtime rules as tournament game regular time tie
