Assistant Professor in Art Education (Tenure Track) Theory and Practice in Teacher Education College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville
The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at The University of Tennessee seeks applicants for an assistant professor in art educationto contribute to research and teaching and serve as coordinator of the art education program within the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education (TPTE). TPTE offers programs of study that lead to initial teacher licensure and endorsement in many areas; a graduate urban specialist certificate; and masters, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. We seek a new faculty member to join an active research and teaching community investigating innovation, reform, and/or social and cultural aspects related to art education. Position begins August 2018.
We are looking for a scholar who can engage in substantial research within the field of art education and pursue external funding to support adynamic research agenda. Teaching and learning responsibilities include supporting the undergraduate and graduate programs in TPTE through teaching relevant coursework and advising. Additional responsibilities include chairing graduate committees;coordinating clinical placements;serving on departmental, college, and/or university committees; providing service and leadership to state and national/international professional organizations;working collaboratively with UTK’s School of Art; and strengthening relationships with public school art programs and community art agencies.
Required Qualifications: Applicants for this nine-month tenure-track positionmust have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in art education by the time of appointment;an emerging record of published research; demonstrated excellence in teaching in higher education (beyond a graduate teaching assistantship); a minimum of five years successful K-12 art teaching experience; and active participation in professional art education organizations at the state and national levels.
Desired Qualifications: Specialization in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: teacher education, curriculum theory, interdisciplinary learning, arts-based educational research, social or ecological justice, and/or visual culture. Additional desired qualities includeexperience or demonstrated interest in mentoring graduate students,knowledge of teacher performance assessment strategies (e.g., edTPA),and demonstrated interest in working with university and community partners.Applicants who have experience serving successfully as a program coordinator or team leader will be given strong consideration.
