Course Title: Design and Drawing for Production

Course Credit: 1 Unit

Design and Drawing for Production (DDP) is an approved course to meet the one unit of art/music requirement for graduation for all students, in addition to approved art education course or a CTE sequence. The DDP syllabus is aligned with Standard 5 of the Mathematics, Science and Technology Learning Standards and the Visual Arts Learning Standards. (

Course Duration: 40 Weeks

Textbook:There is no textbook for this class Students will receive class information and assignments through their Batavia City School District Google Classroom account.

Course Description:

This introductory design class is intended for students in grades 9-12 interested in learning the design process, basic sketching and computer-aidedl drawing techniques and their relationship to production processes. The initial focus of the class will be on measurement and the element of design creativity, while addressing functional and aesthetic requirements of the products. Students will also learn a variety of computer-aided drawing techniques in an effort to prepare them to be effective graphic communicators in a technical society. Various types of drawings will be incorporated into design challenges including orthographic projections, pictorials, sections, auxiliary views and revolutions. Each of these types of drawings will be integrated into activities that primarily focus on the production of exciting, real world products and Tech Wars events.

Required School Supplies:

1. Pens and pencils (Mechanical pencils are preferred for sketching and drawing)

Homework Policy:

All homework assignments are to be written in your agenda (ir tracked in Google Calendar) and turned in on the due date set by the teacher. Late assignments will be accepted until the end of each ten week marking period. However, assignments turned in one day late will receive a deduction of 10 points. Assignments 2-5 days late will receive a grade no greater than 70%, and assignments more than 5 days late will receive a grade of no greater than or less than 50%. Any student absent due to illness is expected to see the teacher for missed assignments the day the student returns to school. At that time assignments and due dates will be discussed and set for the student. Students repeatedly turning in late assignments will not be given an opportunity for extra credit assignments in hopes of replacing low grades due to lateness. Extra credit assignments are intended for those who struggle with assignments and/or are interested in further developing a knowledge base in a particular area.

Grading Policy:

Classwork, homework, and quiz grades will be counted once in the teacher’s grade book,while tests, ePortfolio work, and project grades will be counted twice. Students may
use this to determine their average at any time during the school year.Final averages will bedetermined by averaging the student’s ten-weekmarking period grades (40% each) with their final exam grade (20%).
