Mentor/RE Observation Request Form Instructions
The Resident Educator Program involves a large population of teachers and we are presented with a need to coordinate Mentor and Resident Educator Observations, especially when you factor in the need for a substitute!
Mentors will need to conduct a formal observation- we ask that you wait until January/February. Additional observations will be handled on an “as needed” basis- please contact the RE Office with concerns. You will still perform monthly informal walkthroughs. If you are not assigned to the same building- Mentors can request some release time for classroom visits. For those Mentors assigned 2 REs- we suggest using 1 day (Morning with one RE and afternoon with the other RE). Mentors in the same building as their RE can possibly use planning time or arrange for class coverage to observe your RE- substitutes can be arranged, if absolutely necessary (speak to your building principal about class coverage). Again, contact the RE Office to resolve any issues.
Resident Educators observing your mentor and/or an exemplary teacher: if you can arrange class coverage with your colleagues or administrator-it would be greatly appreciated, otherwise a substitute can be arranged.
Please avoid Friday’s and Monday’s for scheduling an observation requiring a substitute!
The attached form has been created to monitor the Observation Piece of the Program.
· We are asking Mentors to assist their RE in the process of scheduling an observation with you or a peer teacher.
· If the observation will take place at another building- that building’s administrator needs to be made aware of the observation (via email or verbal communication).
· Complete the form- including the applicant’s Building Administrator’s Signature.
· Send the form to Patricia Lyden@ I. Ward Bldg. for approval
· Approved form will be returned to applicant along with a confirmation email.
· Applicant creates absence on AESOP- anyone leaving their home building for the observation (whether you need a substitute or not) needs to create an absence- for liability purposes!
