TCCU OFFERS SIX $1000AWARDS IN 4TH ANNUAL
“STOP. SHOP. VOTE!” SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
TAYLORVILLE, IL – Student registration is now open for TCCU’s 4th Annual “Stop. SHOP. VOTE!” Scholarship Program. Six area high school students will each receive $1000 awards to continue their education at a trade school, community college or 4-year university.
“Our program is open to any high school senior at Taylorville, Hillsboro and Litchfield High Schools graduating next May, 2018, and who plans to continue their education,” explains TCCU President, Will Perkins. “Registration is fast and easy: we just need the student’s name, good quality photo – their school ID is perfect – and a signed parental permission slip. The permission slip is available at the high schools, online at and in our three local branch offices.
“Students have until end-of-day Friday, October 13, 2017, to get their registrations to us.”
Perkins points out that the cost of higher education continues to increase, making it more difficult for many students to pursue their dreams. “As a community-based credit union, we recognize the need to help our local students succeed. These $1000 financial awards will help six of our students along their path to success.”
Now in its fourth year, TCCU’s scholarship program brings the community together in an effort that benefits students, local businesses, and the communities in general.
As Perkins points out, six students will each receive $1000 awards. The winners are determined by votes cast in participating businesses. Shoppers can cast one vote for every $10.00 they spend at a participating business. “The program encourages residents to shop locally and support our small business owners. This in turn benefits our communities, because sales tax revenue is kept ‘at home.’
“Over the three previous years, we’ve seen increases across the board: in the number of students registering to be eligible, in the number of participating businesses, and in the total number of dollars being spent locally, as reflected by the thousands of votes cast.”
Families who have a senior student this year, or have a friend or neighbor who has a senior, are encouraged to get those students to register. Registration can be done at their high school, at their local TCCU branch office, or online. The parental permission slip also is available online, at
Participating businesses in their respective communities will display a poster of registered students’ photos, as well as have ballots and ballot boxes on hand.
Student registration is open from now through Friday, October 13. The scholarship promotion / voting period will run from November 10, 2017 through February 28, 2018. “We purposely selected that timeframe because it encompasses the traditional holiday shopping season. It’s a win-win situation: people can do their shopping locally to benefit our businesses, their gift-buying for family and friends is complete, and they help benefittwo local high school students from their specific community.”
Scholarships will be awarded at the end of the school year in May, 2018.
