1. Website enhancements – member forum is in use. Members must edit their profiles and subscribe to the forums. Karin and Sandy from ARiA will see if the programming can be changed so that we get a notification when there is a post to the member forum. It was also suggested that we all subscribe to all topics. Then if a member did not want info from a topic they could unsubscribe.
The look of the website will change with different quotes and more than just quotes from Mike. Members are encouraged to go to the website and look at the changes and view the member forums.
2. Code of Ethics Initially discussed where each member company will add to the code of ethics. Bonnie will send the beginning framework to Mike and Dick. They will look at it, add to it and comment. This should be a document that is created by all so that there is understanding and engagement in the process and in the finished document.
3. Coding Task Force Precyse Solutions has said that they do not want to be members of AHIOS . With that it was agreed to put this idea on the back burner and not pursue it at this time.
4. Lobbying Packets Jan, Dick and Joe F make up this committee. Jan has information needed for lobbyists. Add the ROI Process Map as well and use this when speaking to legislators. The brochure with the process map is very effective when speaking to others about the ROI process. Not only do we have to dispel the “it’s as easy as Kinko’s” argument but we now have to dispel the myth that printing an E H R is as easy as hitting a button when in truth, E H R ‘s were never meant to be printed. E H R’s typically generate more pages also. We also surveyed our membership and found out that MRO is the only company delivering the medical records on a CD. Some companies have an electronic delivery, but more often, records are delivered in paper and electronically, not on a CD (as IL law states records must be delivered this way). Jan stated that she would like input on a conference call with the NY lobbyist and those companies doing business in NY should be visiting the state hospital associations in NY City and outside NY City to engage these individuals in a discussion of the process and complexity of providing copies of medical records.
6, 7 Meeting with Hospital Associations and Legislative Updates Jonathan Arkin sent an article to Jan regarding the RHIO’s are not working and heathcare providers should be working for an interoperable E H R. Jan mentioned that AHIMA has advocated a personal “flash drive” for patient records. This type of legislation was proposed in GA. Above all, AHIOS members must be working now with their state HIMA’s , state hospital associations to proactively work on educating others about the complexity of the process and the fallacies associated with electronic records.
Sandy has pitched a proposal to the HFMA just like the AHIMA proposal for speaking in Oct 2008. ARiA has also put out pitches in the pipeline with topics such as “the impact of E H R on PHI.
8. CRIS Test Revisions Mariela had agreed to revising the test and has the test ready to go with 100 questions. Mariela will send it out to everyone and would like comment by the end of November. The new test will be ready to use in January 2008.
9. D/O Insurance – coverage of 1M for $1,100 annually. Members agreed on the purchase of the policy. Bonnie will contact Steve Schoenberger on the details
