READINESS BENCHMARKS FOR TESTING

Students and Faculty: The chart below is designed to provide guidance to students so that they can take the PRAXIS II exams at optimal times in their matriculation through the TeacherPreparationAcademy. Please add to this as you see fit during your advisement sessions.

A.PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING AND TEACHING (PLT)

Unless otherwise indicated*, for initial licensure, all students are required to take one of the four Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) testsin addition to their specialty area tests. (The Early Childhood PLT 30521 is now accepted by Tennessee). Follow the guidelines below:

Note:Candidates seeking licensure in Elementary Education K-8 (Endorsement Code 402) may choose the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT) P-4 [#0521], Principles of Learning andTeaching (PLT) K-6 OR (PLT) 5-9 [#0523].

Candidates seeking licensure in K-12 or PreK-12 endorsements may choose PLT P-4 [#0521], PLT K-6 [#0522], (PLT) 5-9 [#0512] OR(PLT) 7-12 [#0524].

Note:Exemption from (PLT): Candidates for the following areas are only required to complete the appropriate Specialty Area Test: School Counselor PreK-12, School Psychologist, and Speech/Language Pathology.

Note:Candidates who have already completed test modules specified for one science area, including Earth Science and General Science, will be required to take only the content knowledge exam for endorsement in an additional science area.

Note:Two tests, (1) The Education of Exceptional Students: Core Content Knowledge, and (2) Reading Across Curriculum: Elementary, apply to the following special education areas: modified program, comprehensive program, hearing, vision and preschool/early childhood.

Note:The Special Education test 0353: Education of Exceptional Students: Core Content Knowledge applies to the following Special Education areas: Modified Program, Comprehensive Program, and Special Education Preschool/Early Childhood. Candidates who are adding an endorsement in Special Education to a license that has an existing Special Education endorsement need to take only the Specialty Test for the Special Education area, not the Education of Exceptional Students: Core Content Knowledge (Test 0353). Candidates adding endorsements 460 Special Education Modified and 461 Special Education Comprehensive to a license with an existing Special Education endorsement are not required to take the core test.

ADDENDUM

PRAXIS II READINESS BENCHMARKS

FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

PRE K – 3 DUAL LICENSURE

In order to complete Checkpoint 3 and be assigned a student teaching placement all PreK-3 licensure candidates must complete all the Praxis II exams for either the ECE licensure or the ECSE licensure. Students must complete allPraxis II exams for both licensures to qualify for licensure and graduation. (see below)
