Speaker Proposal Guidelines for 23rd International Conference of NELTA

February 15-17, 2018, Kathmandu, Nepal

International Conference of NELTA is one of the key events in Nepal for professionals in ELT working in diverse contexts at home and beyond. As it is an international conference, it provides the presenters/attendees with a unique opportunity for establishing a network, which ultimately helps them promote their professional competencies. Presenting at this conference becomes a life-changing experience for the majority.

Please consider the following before you submit the speaker proposals.

  • Speaker proposals must be submitted online at
  • The deadline for submitting a speaker proposal is 15th December 2017 (office time in Nepal)
  • You will be emailed the result of your proposal around Mid-January, 2018.
  • You must be registered to attend and/or present at the conference.

Technical information regarding your proposal:

A)Length of Title

Your title must be a maximum of 10 words.

B)Length of Abstract

Your abstract must be within maximum 100 words.

C)Length of Summary

Your summary must be between 180and 200 words.

D)Repetition of Information in the summary

You must not repeat your title or abstract or include any biodata in your summary.

E)Repetition of Session

You must not have presented this session or version of this session, at a previous NELTA conference or at any other conference.

F)Session type

You must clearly indicate/select what type of session you wish to present. The proposal review committee will look at your preference but your presentation may be programmed differently, if deemed necessary. Successful speakers will be informed of their session type in their acceptance letter emailed in January. We will be accepting the following type of papers.

  1. Talk

A 30‐minute session that describes what you are doing, or have done, in relation to theory and practice orthat focusses on commercial materials or products. Its content must be of relevance and use for delegateswho work in and outside your local context. We strongly recommend that you focus on the most salient points (3‐4points max) of your subject matter, use visual aids during the session and include some interaction with theaudience. We also request you allow adequate time for a Q&A session. If you would like to restrict the size ofyour audience, there is a place on the speaker proposal to indicate your preferred size.

  1. Workshop
    This session will be provided for 45 minutes. It must be prepared in such a way that it maximizes active participation of audiences through experiencing and discussion tasks provided. The modality of the presentation and task accomplishment must be clearly mentioned in the summary by giving a brief outline of activities that will involve the audience. We try to programme workshops in rooms with moveable furniture but cannot guarantee this since in some years we may get workshop sessions more than we expect. If you would like to restrict the size of your audience, there is place on the speaker proposal to indicate your preferred size.
  2. Interactive Language Fair (ILF)/poster

These two sessions take place simultaneously at the same hall.

  1. ILF: This is a 45 minutes session. In this session, the presenters are expected to interact with the audience through a combination of handouts, posters and other realia. Each presenter will be provided with a stand/stall that consists of a poster board and a table only. You may display any material you like on your stand and bring your own laptop with a presentation or interactive activities. Please bear in mind that any type of audience will be visit your stall and the effectiveness of your interaction decides the success or failure of your presentation.
  2. Poster: You will be timetabled to present for 10 minutes at your poster during the conference. However, you may need to stand by the poster longer than the time provided depending on the flow and query of audiences during your talk. There will not be any electronic facilities in the poster forum. The maximum size of a poster is A1 portrait (59 cm wide x 84 cm high in minimum to 70 cm x 1meter high in maximum). The content of the poster must be quite relevant to ELT and in proper size as mentioned.

G)Equipment

Please make a request any equipment you require for your presentations. This enables us to allocate your session to a relevant room. We can guarantee for accommodation of power point presentations in each room. We will let you know if the equipment you required is available with us or not while sending you the letter of acceptance of your proposal.

H)Registration

  • All presenters should register for the conference. Without registration, we do not put the abstract in the conference program. However, the participants/presenters from foreign countries may register upon arrival at the conference venue.
  • The registration fee may be sent in the form of an account payee cheque to the account of NELTA (Savings Account0110013038001)drawable by NELTA from Nabil Bank Ltd., Kantipath, Kathmandu. The swift code of Nabil Bank is NARBNPKA. The presenters/participants from outside Nepal may send the amount to NELTA account making it sure that NELTA receives the exact amount required. The sender bears the bank service charge himself/herself. Once the registration fee is paid, it is non-refundable. Please note that NELTA holds no financial responsibility for you.

  • The registration fee includes costs for lunch, tea and snacks on the conference days and stationery. It does not include the costs for travel, lodging, board (except lunch) and other expenses.
  • Expats working in SAARC are required to produce their valid identity card during registration.
