A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE DR. NANCY L. TURNER, PRINCIPAL OF WHITE KNOLL MIDDLE SCHOOL, IN LEXINGTON COUNTY, FOR HER DEDICATION AND HARD WORK AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING SELECTED THE 2008 METLIFE/NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS MIDDLE LEVEL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Dr. Nancy L. Turner has served as an educator for over twentyeight years and was named 2008 MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals Middle Level Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and
Whereas, in preparation to become a model teacher, Nancy Turner earned a bachelor of arts from Michigan State University in East Lansing and a master of education and a doctor of philosophy from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, before serving as principal at White Knoll for the last thirteen years, Dr. Turner was an assistant principal there and in Fairfield County. She taught in Chapin, Irmo and nine years in North Carolina; and
Whereas, she also served as an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, White Knoll Middle School received extensive national attention when Dr. Turner spearheaded the successful effort to raise over a half million dollars to purchase and deliver a new fire truck for New York City following the devastating attacks and losses of September 11, 2001; and
Whereas, she has led White Knoll Middle School in other fundraising projects, notably the Pennies for Patients for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society which raised fifteen thousand dollars last year alone; and
Whereas, Dr. Turner’s work in the community has received recognition from such organizations as the Girl Scouts, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lexington County Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for Dr. Nancy L. Turner and her devoted and exemplary service in educating the youth of South Carolina and wish her continued success in her career. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and recognize Dr. Nancy L. Turner, principal of White Knoll Middle School, in Lexington County, for her dedication and hard work as an educator, and congratulate her for being selected the 2008 MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals Middle Level Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Nancy L. Turner.
