Dispenser ( for Maternity Leave)
Working full-time hours – 37 hours per week.

Reporting to the Dispensary Lead
Dispensing Tasks
· To work as a member of the Dispensing Team and ensure that communication is maintained within the team
· To process acute and repeat medication, by either prescription, prescription counterfoils, requests from hospitals, residential homes and Doctors
· To dispense private prescriptions
· Prepare prescriptions for signature by GPs and ensure signatures obtained
· Sort doctors’ prescriptions for signing
· Check with GPs and Nurse Specialists/Practitioner for re-issue of acute medication
· As the prescriptions are printed we separate town scripts and dispensing scripts
· Separate Boots and Day Lewis prescriptions for collection
· Write CD prescriptions and Repeat Dispensing prescriptions into the relevant chemist books.
· To check CD medication dispensed by colleagues
· To dispense controlled drugs ensuring that the necessary documentation is in line with current legislation
· Responsible for the checking, recording and updating of GPs’ medical bags
· To update patient medication when instructed to do so
· Take orders for repeat prescriptions by post, online, in person and chemist
· To answer queries about medication on the telephone, checking with doctors if necessary
· To meet with drug representatives as necessary
· Update drug tariff at beginning of every month
· Complete stock orders
· To count and check endorsements and send prescriptions to PPA at the end of every month
· Implement changes in Practice formulary
· To ensure sufficient staffing levels
· To prepare SOPS and update as necessary
· To carry out drug searches as and when required
· Liaise with District Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors and other external bodies
· To answer the telephone and make required calls in a polite and professional manner
· Input repeat medication requests using the practice computer system
· Unpack and check incoming medication orders from the supplier
· Complete photocopying of medication pack leaflets and other items when necessary
· Receive and balance prescription monies and card payments received
· Issue completed prescription items to patients or their representatives, ensuring back of prescription is completed properly.
· Ensure that dispensary kept clean and tidy
· Order medication for residential care homes via MAR sheets and then send to chemist
· Blue prescriptions – every week Dispenser will check list and when prescriptions are due for patient they are added to Dr Gilberts Screen.
· Dispensers complete blister packs for a number of dispensing patients weekly. To order equipment to complete the blister packing.
· Complete computer work – ie posters, forms, emails
· Send off payment claim for gluten free food scheme at the end of each month.
· Send any CD errors to the Accountable Officers at the PCT, every 3 months.
· Check AAH invoices every 3 months against statement
· After the prescriptions have been counted and sent off the PA’s must be logged into the computer and a copy given to the Practice Manager.
· Select appropriate patients for repeat dispensing.
· Alerts – medical/equipment/building etc are sent via email must be dealt with.
· Ensure deliveries are ready to go out to on a daily basis
· Check stock regularly of the Controlled drugs cupboard.
· Oxygen – Complete hoof forms, get Doctors signatures and fax to PCT and Air Liquide (Supplier). Oxygen consent forms needs to be signed by the patient.
General
· To accept responsibility for own computer ensuring that any confidential information is not visible when away from screen and closed down at end of shift to preserve patient confidentiality
· To read the staff noticeboard and emails received to keep up to date with activities
· To attend staff meetings and PPG meetings. Contribute positively with ideas to improve the overall success of the Practice
· To promote a friendly and enjoyable working environment
· To work to the set assessment criteria and objectives as set out in the Review System
· Take responsibility for own development and to attend any training courses and meetings that the Practice Manager deems suitable.
· To maintain confidentiality at all times
· To report any accidents/incidents to the Practice Manager
· To abide by statutory and Practice regulations regarding fire, health and safety and security issues
· To action and complete any other tasks as deemed reasonable by the Practice Manager
· Take money for items allowed to be sold to staff, and record and balance money weekly and hand to Office Manager.
· Make sure credits are received from suppliers, when goods are not received or returned.
· Record gluten free meds dispensed on point system – check patients are only having allowed amount, and the correct items ie:no cakes or biscuits etc
