8.26Sweet Product / Ingredients day
Declare what you will make for your product including a detailed recipe.Explain all of the necessary ingredients.
9.9Ingredients calculations day / Ratios
Present a representation of your product (picture or drawing) and a detailed recipe.
Calculate and represent in a clear and attractive manner (either on your web space or on paper) your ingredients for 1 treat, 12 treats, 24 treats, and 144 treats. You may want to type this information into a spreadsheet for comparison and analysis. Be able to explain how changing the recipe uses ratios and proportional reasoning.
Example 1 cookie = 1 tsp sugar /12 cookies = 12 tsp sugar = 1/4 cup /24 cookies 24 tsp sugar = ½ cups / 144 cookies 144 tsp sugar = 3 cups
*you must do this for ALL ingredients (minimum 3), your ingredients should break down into fractions.
9.16Begin research
Start researching. Use local advertisements, shop on-line, or take a trip to the grocery store with an adult to determine cost of ingredients. Remember to compare different brands and different size packages to find the best price/quality ingredients. Keep a log book to show the different location /brand / size package / price. You may want to type this information into a spreadsheet for comparison and analysis. You must find prices for every ingredient in your recipe.
10.14 Cost Analysis
1. Calculate and present costs to produce 1 treat and 144 treats
a. you must do show the analysis including each ingredient
b. you need to price check at two stores or use two brands.
I suggest you present the lowest price and the price for preferred ingredients (better quality chocolate or fresh fruit as opposed to canned or frozen etc.)
c. Ex.If 100 cookies require 1lb of sugar and 1lb sugar - cost at Publix 3.99, at Kroger 2.99
1 cookie = $.04 sugar at Publix and $.03 at Kroger,
100 cookies - $4.00 sugar at Publix and $3.00 at Kroger
2. Make an equation to calculate profit per cookie at 2 different price points
a. eg. Selling cookies for a dollar, cookies cost .60 to produce
b. 1c - .60c = p1 / 144
11.20 Business Plan Presentation
Plan and organize a business plan detailing all the tasks you had to do, as well as where and how you want to market your plan. Creating a commercial might be a good idea. Explaining where you intend on selling the treats and the price point you want to use. Explain any permits you would need to get and a plan for paying business taxes.
