1Assessment against this unit standard must take place in a trawler fish processing factory, at sea.
2Legislation which applies to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Fisheries Acts 1983 and 1996, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and their associated regulations.
3Machinery for the assessment against this unit standard includes – Baader 84, 190, 192, 197, 212 , 182, 417, 424 and similar heading machines.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Remove knives from factory trawler fish processing machinery.
Rangefilleting, heading.
Performance criteria
1.1Knife removal conforms with factory operating procedures.
1.2Removal of nuts is consistent with identified thread pattern.
1.3Knife removal is consistent with manufacturer’s instructions.
1.4Removed knives are identified as matched pairs.
Element 2
Sharpen factory trawler fish processing machinery knives.
Performance criteria
2.1Knives are sharpened in accordance with factory operating procedures.
2.2Knives are sharpened in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
Element 3
Replace knives in factory trawler fish processing machinery.
Performance criteria
3.1Replacement of knives is in accordance with factory operating procedures.
3.2Replacement of knives is in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
