Title:Post Beginners’ Spanish

Course duration:20 weekly sessions of two hours

Minimum entry requirements:About 40 hours of tuition and 40 hours of self study

able to do the following activities: greetings; introducing self and others; shopping; telling the time and days; asking and giving directions; ordering food and drink; describing objects, people and places; dealing with simple hotel situations; talking about routine activities;

using the present tense of regular and irregular verbs

You ought to have an idea of the immediate future tense

Course aims: To enable students to

  • reach level A1+/A2 of CEFR
  • establish the language skills required for

the further study of Spanish

  • cope with the basics of everyday life in a

target language speaking environment

and communicate with confidence within

this context

Learning outcomes: On completion of this module, students should be

able to

  • understand the basic structures and

vocabulary of the target language and

apply them in well-defined situations

  • obtain information from authentic

recordings and understand spoken

messages in context

  • confidently conduct conversations, ask

for and give information within the

context of routine and everyday tasks as

well as education and work

  • read and understand simple authentic

texts, e.g. telephone messages, letters,

emails, advertisements

  • write simple messages, formal and

informal letters, emails

Main topics of study: Selected topics from a variety of areas, of a

routine nature, e.g. everyday life, university and

training, professional life

Course content:Greetings; giving/understanding information about

oneself, friends and family; talking about routine

everyday activities; asking for/giving directions; describing places; expressing likes, dislikes, preferences and intentions; describing people’s appearances and personalities; shopping;

making telephone calls, appointments and bookings;

ordering meals; making complaints; talking about past and future events; givingopinions

Assessment: Students are given the opportunity to complete

progress tests in order to obtain a certificate.

Brunel Certificate of achievement:

On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded the Brunel Certificate of Achievement.
