Abstract. A fossil specimen has been discovered and described which now provides incontrovertible scientific evidence for Intelligent Design. Critical analyses and corroboration have been made regarding the origin and authenticity of this fossil specimen. Since this is the first published paleontological evidence in support ofIntelligent Design, this new finding could potentially lead to a paradigm shift among science researchers and science educators. Most certainly, itwill provide a spinnaker to promote the educational interests and claims of selected political and religious groups.
Introduction
Intelligent Design (hereafter referred to as ID) has been faulted as a notion that lacks scientific evidence. This seemingly unfortunate circumstance arises, in part, from the prominent paucity of paleontological evidence to supportID. This report serves to resoundingly rectify this situation.
Methods
The fossil specimen described herein was collected onApril 11, 2005 at a quarry in Rockford, Iowa(Floyd County, Iowa). The rock in question was partially buried by surrounding shaley sediments. However, the keyfeatures of this specimen were initially spotted in situ with a naked, myopic eye (sans corrective lenses), at a distance of ~12 cm. Before removal, it was noted that the specimen was clearly juxtaposed within a naturally weathered context of substrata. There were no signs whatsoever of any anthropogenic activity or disturbance surrounding the specimen or the immediate area.
After removal from the substrate, the specimen was stored separately in a labeled container. All subsequent handling was done carefully to avoid any possibility of abrasion or alteration of its original texture and surface. The specimen was not subjected to any brushing or washing. Although it currentlyremains in locked security, it may be accessed by other independent researchers who request permission to view or photograph it, necessarily under closely supervised conditions.
The specimen was photographed using an Olympus Model DP-12 microscope camera and Olympus Model SZ60 stereo-dissecting microscope. Illumination consisted of focused white light from a dual-gooseneck fiber optics illuminator. Electronic images were un-retouched. No introduction of pseudo-color, pixel editing, or image re-positioning was done after capturing the initial image.
Results and Discussion
Figure 1 provides the remarkable, albeit sole, evidence for ID, as presented in this paper. As can be seen from this microscopic image, the letters “ID” (apparently italicized and without punctuation) plainly appear on the surface of the limestone specimen. The letters, of indeterminate font, are approximately 2 mm in size.

Although systematic efforts were made to rotate the specimen to other viewing angles (90°,180°, 270° etc), in an attempt togenerate alternative decipherments, no other intelligible ciphers were discovered. Hence, these results lead to the inescapable conclusion that the specimen described here represents seminal and definitive paleontological evidence for the notion of Intelligent Design (ID).
