1. On Google Drive inside of your folder for our class, open your project folder.

2. Inside your project folder, create a new Google doc and name it Criterion D.

a. Choose font type Arial or Times New Roman and font type 12.

b.Below the dotted line and beginning with the words “Your Name/Block,” select and highlight all of the informationto the bottom of the last process journal for this criterion and copy it. Make sure that you have highlighted and copied all of it.

c. Then Paste it onto your Criterion D document at Google Drive.Use this original form.Do not delete directions, questions, instructions for tasks, etc. Do not rearrange any data or information.Only titles and headings shouldbe centered aligned.Everything else (directions, questions, answers, etc.) is to be left aligned.

d. Fix any formatting issues (spacing, recreating table or charts, etc.).

- Select/highlight the entire document: Click Edit --> Select All.

- Select Single Space from the Line Spacing Icon.

- Select font size 12.

- Select either Arial or Times New Roman.

- Fix text alignment and spacing issues

e. Otherwise, in general, please keep the formatting as it is.

f. Do not add extra bold, italicize or underline regular text or data. You may notice this has already been done either for emphasis or to assist you with finding a section. Titles and headings should be in bold,.

Criterion D:Evaluating

Level 1Bracing for the FutureProject

Interdisciplinary Unit with Language B (Spanish or French):

1. Complete your Criterion D Evidence document and submit it on Canvas.

2. In Spanish or French, create a screencast that evaluates your product and provides your reflection about your use of the Design Cycle. To clarify, do a screencast, not a podcast (audio only).

a. Minimum time limit: 5 minutes.

b. Use the writing process to compose your script in Spanish or French.

c. Prepare your screenshots, videos, etc., such as your pictures and video of you and your product and your Criterion D Evidence of Work document.

d. Record and if needed, rerecord, your screencast.

e. See your CTE/Design teacher for a copy of our Criterion D rubric to give to your Language B teacher.

f. See your Language B teacher about how to submit your screencast (perhaps via file upload on Canvas).

g. Your CTE/Design teacher and your Spanish or French teacher will communicate about your rubric score and grade.

Notes for Criterion D:

  • Product testing:This is a stage in the design process where versions of products (for example, prototypes) are tested against the design need (specification), applied to the context and presented to the end-user or target audience.
  • These tests may include the collection and analysis of data.
  • Types of testing include user trial and observation: (usability and intuitiveness), field/ performance test: (functionality and performance), expert appraisal: (beta testing, consumer testing).
  • Authentic tests: The tests are relevant to the project and are completed by appropriate testers to gain high- quality quantitative and qualitative feedback.

Objective 1: I can outline, simple relevant testing methods, which generate data, to measure the success of the solution.

Evidence of Work - Classwork and Homework

Criterion D, Objective 1 Evidence of Work.Be very thorough and cite specifics as you provide information, and follow instructions for completing the following rubric.Carefully read and thoroughly follow directions as you answer questions and complete tasks. Pay attention and listen carefully in class for explanations and as applicable, examples. All four objectives of Criterion D are to be completed individually only; ask teacher for questions, help, etc. There is no peer review/evaluation form with Criterion D, but you are encouraged to have a peer check your work before handing it in.

1. For Criterion D, Objective 1, you (or you may ask a willing classmate) are instructed to (1) read the bullet points below; (2) wear, use, and try your created assistive medical device in order to test it out and to evaluate how well it fits, works, functions, supports, protects, assists with healing, etc.; and (3) with five more sentences for each question, answer the five questions below these bullets. Reminder: Demonstrate your critical thinking skills as you compose strong, effective sentences,

  • Your assessment grade will not depend on how successful your product will turn out.
  • You are expected to give you best effort, whether your assistive medical device works well or not.
  • Remember, if your product does not work to your liking, that engineering is an iterative or repetitive process.
  • Therefore,you will be encouraged to rework, fix, and improve your product until you get it to work to your satisfaction.
  • In context of Criterion D's rubrics, your grade will be determined on how well you display critical thinking skills as you evaluate your product and reflect upon you’re the learning.

a. Explain in detail, including an evaluation of your product’s strength and flexibility, how well did the materials you used to create your assistive medical device worked?

b. Explain both similarities and differences about the functionality of the natural and

synthetic materials that you used to construct your product.

c. Reflect about any ethical issues related to the product (health, environmental, costs, etc.).

d. Exactly how would this assistive medical device protect, support, provide relief, and help heal a strain, sprain, stress fracture, or break?

e. Summarize you experiences and reflect upon your learning when you tested out and evaluated your brace, wrap, or support?

Criterion D, Objective 1 Process Journal

Evidence of Work - Classwork/Homework

What does a strong, effective sentence look like? Besides being grammatically correct, a strong effective sentence elaborates with specifics and depending upon the question or task, it may also analyze, compare/contrast, draw conclusions, make predictions, evaluate, or reflect. So please apply your higher order thinking skills as you answer questions and complete tasks.

Objective 2:I can outline the success of the solution against the design specification.

1. In a paragraph of eight or more strong, effective sentences, compare and contrast your product to your plan in Criterion C.. How are they alike and different? Conclude with a summary about your product’s success? What went well? What did you enjoy the most about it?

2. In a paragraph of five or more strong, effective sentences, describe and analyze how your product could be improved? Other words, what are its OFI’s (opportunities for improvement)?

3. In a paragraph of six or more strong, effective sentences, describe and analyze the impact or influence that you think your presentation on your audience (potential patients and/or viewers)? How would your product interest and engage your audience? What new things would they learn? In what ways would viewing your product potentially impact or influence their lives? What is the potential IB/global, bigger picture outlook for your product?

Criterion D, Objectives 2, 3, and 4 Process Journal

1. In a paragraph of four or more strong, effective sentences, reflect, analyze, and evaluate your use of CriterionD: Evaluating- of the design cycle. Refer to the rubric for Criterion D. Reflect on yourcompleted rubric for objective 1, your essay for objective 2, and your paragraphs for objectives 3and 4. What went well? What did you like best? What are the OFI’s?

2. In a paragraph of four or more strong, effective sentences, reflect, analyze and evaluate your use of the DesignCycle –Criteria A, B, C, and D. You may refer to your Objective 1 rubric data about your use ofthe Design Cycle. What did you learn about utilizing the Design Cycle that will better prepareyou for the next time you will use the Design Cycle?

  3. As you proofread your work again,make sure that your first/last name, class block, and date handed in are accurately typed at the top of the page.
  4. Fix any formatting issues, such as spacing, left alignment questions adding borders (gridlines), adjusting cell sizes, etc.
  5. Everything will probably align left and that is OK. :-) Just keep it that way. Any color will probably end up black or gray. You may also use any dark color for titles, headings, and your answers.
