The Deputy Director, Infrastructure Development is an executive leadership position that manages the Highway and Bridge Design, Construction Operations, Land Development, Planning, Survey and Property, Traffic Engineering and Electrical Operations functions of the Roads & Airports Department. This Executive Management position works under the direction of the Director, Department of Roads and Airports and is responsible for management responsibilities such as developing and executing the Department’s capital projects program, including developing contract for a wide variety of transportation projects and managing
constructions contracts, developing short and long-range plans for the County road system and oversees the Department’s participation in transportation studies and plans developed by other agencies,budget recommendations and monitors expenditures for areas of responsibility,Representing the Department at various boards, commissions and local, regional, state and federal agencies, policy recommendations for consideration by the County Executive and Board of Supervisors and selecting and supervising staff.
An ideal candidate should be a proven executive who will be progressive, energetic, responsive, politically astute and confident leader who is flexible, a good problem solver and customer service oriented. The required knowledge and abilities required to perform this function would typically be acquired through education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, public administration, public policy, management or business (or a closely related field) and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of transportation, at least three (3) of which must have been in a management capacity in a public works or transportation organization comparable to the County of Santa Clara or in a private sector organization providing transportation consulting services to a public works or transportation organization comparable to the County of Santa Clara. Registration as a professional civil engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
