Blackboard Quick Tip #24
Multiple Answer Questions
Immediately upon creating a quiz, you can add questions to it. Multiple Answer questions are corrected automatically, and you cannot apply partial credit to this question type.
Create a Multiple Answer Question
Multiple answer questions allow students to choose more than one correct answer. However, if a student chooses incorrectly, the entire item will be graded as incorrect. There is no partial credit given for Multiple Answer items.
1. From the Test Canvas, choose MULTIPLE ANSWER from the Add Question: drop-down list and click GO. A new page appears.
2. Type in the question in the Question Textbox: and provide the point value for the question. If you want students to refer to a specific file to answer the question, attach it. Or if you want students to refer to a specific Web page, enter the URL with a title (see Blackboard Quick Tip #22).
3. Select the numbering format from the Answer Numbering drop-down menu. If your answers consist of numbers, you will want to choose letters or Roman numerals.
4. Choose VERTICAL or HORIZONTAL from the Answer Orientation drop-down menu. You will want to be consistent with this choice across all questions in your exam.
5. Check the Allow Partial Credit checkbox if you want to allow partial credit for some answers. If this option is chosen, you can specify how much credit is given to each answer. Selecting this option will not change the grades after the test has already been taken.
6. Check the Show Answers in Random Order checkbox to allow each student to see the answers in a different order. Thus, the answer will not always be in the same location.
7. Select the number of answer options your students will choose from in the Number of Answers: drop-down menu.
8. Enter each answer option in the numbered textbox provided. Be sure to select the correct checkbox next to all of the correct options. If you have chosen to add additional files or URLs with each answer enter them in the spaces provided under each answer textbox.
9. Enter feedback in the Correct Response and Incorrect Response textboxes if you want to provide additional feedback to your students.
10. Click SUBMIT. You will be returned to the Test Canvas where you can add additional questions.
11. Or click OK to return to the Test Manager.
