How important is the SAT?
- Almost every college or university requires the SAT as part of the admissions process, and it is
important.
- Keep the test in perspective. The SAT is one element of the admissions process.
- The high school transcript (your grades) is still the most important factor.
- The admissions process also considers application essays, extracurricular activities and recommendations from your
teachers and counselors.
What you get out = What you put in
- Taking the SAT is a skill that can be mastered, just like playing a sport, a musical instrument, etc.
- How you prepare for the SAT – both in and out of this class – will directly impact your success when
taking the SAT.
- Students in this class have made improvements of over 300 points through focus, desire and hard
work.
- Your level of improvement depends on YOU. Your focus, your attitude and your desire to do better
on the SAT are the primary factors in improving your score.
How you’ll be graded
- SAT Prep is a pass/fail course and does not impact your GPA.
- Your real grade is your SAT score. (Think about that)
- Homework is not given, but you may be asked to complete an assignment that you have missed due
to absence or the failure of a student to finish an assignment during classtime.
Computer Usage
- The SAT Prep course includes on-line lessons, sample problems, practice quizzes and other helpful
information. You are expected to complete all on-line assignments with honest effort.
- Write your username and password for the on-line course in your agenda or notebook. You will need
that information for all on-line activities. (We also keep that information on file).
- You are expected to follow the LCPS acceptable use policy regarding computers. You are to log on to
the SAT PREP program only, unless told otherwise. No checking e-mail, surfing, etc.
- Off program = off computer.
If you lose your computer privileges, you will be asked to complete the assignment at home.
Practice, Practice, Practice
- You will be taking various practice sections and full-length practice tests throughout the course.
- Practice sections and tests are designed to help you gain valuable experience in your preparation for
the actual SAT. You are expected to give an honest effort on each practice section or test.
- Most practice sections or tests will be timed, just like when you take the actual SAT.
- You are to use the full allotment of time to complete the practice section or test.
- You are not permitted to work on other materials/homework (for this or another class) during
practice sections. If you finish before time expires, you are to review your answers or attempt
problems you may have skipped or omitted.
Food and Drink
- Beverages and small snacks (something to tide you over until the next meal, such as a bag or chips or a candy
bar) are permitted. This privilege can and will be revoked if trash is not properly deposited in the trash can)
- No food or drink at the computers.
IPODS, Cell Phones and other Electronic Devices
- These must be turned off and PUT AWAY during class unless you are given permission.
- If we see it or hear it, we will take it.
- We will turn the phone over to the main office for safekeeping until a parent or guardian picks it up.
Help
- We encourage all students to seek help with information provided in this class as needed.
- Students are welcome to schedule time with one of us before or after school.
Parents/Guardians
- We are happy to extend an open line of communication to you. Contact us with concerns
