Mansion House Scholarship

Application Form

Purpose of the Mansion House Scholarship

The Mansion House Scholarship Scheme exists to fund scholarships for students and young business executives from overseas to travel to the United Kingdom to study or to undertake training or work experience in the Financial Services Sector.

Application procedure

The Scheme is administered as a Charitable Trust, with an independent Chairman and four appointed Trustees. Nevertheless the selection of scholars remains in the personal gift of the Lord Mayor of the City of London and those awarded scholarships are known as Mansion House Scholars. Scholarships are offered in those countries which the Lord Mayor visits each year and selections are made on the advice of the British Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Consuls General and their staffs and, where appropriate, City of London representational offices. In some cases, the awards are linked closely to the Government sponsored Chevening Scholarship Scheme, whose selection procedures are now well established.

Award value

Awards are usually in the region of £5,000 to £7,500 and are restricted to those applying to study or to undertake training in the Financial Services sector or in related subjects.

Applications

Applications for Mansion House Scholarships should be made in the first instance to the Director of the British Council and/or the Director of Trade and Investment in the British Embassy or High Commission of the country concerned. Applicants should use the approved application form and complete it with information concerning family, educational and professional backgrounds, together with an indication of what training is being sought in UK - and why, coupled with academic and professional references as appropriate. Embassy or British Council staff will then forward endorsed application forms to the Secretary for final approval by the Lord Mayor. Postal address: Secretary, the Mansion House Scholarship Scheme, Mansion House, London EC4N 8BH.
