Single Celled Organism Product Directions

Assignment 3-A2

For this assignment, you will be doing some research on single celled organisms. Review each of the options below before deciding on your final choice. Once you decide, please come and get the rubric for the specific “product” that you want to create. If you are inspired by one of these ideas, but want to come up with your own, please get approval first.

Option 1: Single Celled Organism Wanted Poster

  • Create a “Wanted” poster for a specific single celled organism. You will have to research so that you can include a mug shot (microscopic image of the organism-include shape and color), the crimes committed (what effect does your organism have on others-what does it eat?), last seen information (place where the organism is most likely to be found in nature and how it moves around there/gathers food-hints of what it eats could help someone find it) and reward information (description of the reward and the contact information).

Option 2: Microbe Job Resume

  • Create a “Job Resume” that includes the following: job description (description of the job requirements), qualifications (characteristics of the single celled organism that make it a good fit for the job-color, shape, structures for movement, food gathering mechanisms), references (previous organisms that the microbe has aided in the job described in the Job Description section and address information (most probable locale of the organism for contact).

Option 3: Microbe Award Nomination

  • Create an award nomination for a single celled organism of your choosing. Include the following: award nomination requirements (description of the award nomination requirements), single celled organism’s performance characteristics (characteristics of the organism that make it a good nominee), examples of those organisms previously affected by the organism (previous organisms that the organism has aided or harmed-depending on what the award is for) and other nominees in this category (similar organisms that fit this award).

Option 4: Single Celled Organism Board Game

  • Create a board game similar to LIFE or any other game (excluding Memory) that focuses on single celled organisms. The game must include a board (if applicable), game cards, game pieces and directions. You must be prepared to explain the directions to the class and for it to be used at the health fair. You game should teach players about single celled organisms (see rubric for more specific details)

Option 5: Microbe Story

  • Write a story from the standpoint of a piece of food that is getting eaten by any single celled organism (of the ones we studied). Be sure to explain your journey (in first person) by detailing how the organism looks, moves, what you see along your journey (“body” parts of the organism) and what other types of “food” you meet along the way.
