Joan Eardley Comparison of two of her Paintings
In this part of the essay you will be comparing the two paintings .One is a figure composition and the other is a portrait.
Here are some of the questions and that you should be asking yourself when writing this part of the essay .
- What are the names of the paintings and at what time in her life did she paint them ? (give dates )
- What are the colours in the paintings are they similar? Describe them fully
- Describe the mood in both the paintings is there a similarity? or are they completely different ?
- What is the composition like in both paintings, again is there a similarity or are they different?
- What is the shading like in the pictures is there a similarity or are they different?
- Do the paintings look realistic? photographic?
- Where did she get the ideas from in the painting s? are they similar or different?
- Is there pattern used in the paintings?
- What kind of medium / materials has she used in the paintings? Is there a similarity or are they different?
- What is the artist’s message in the paintings? Again similar or different?
- Do you find the paintings amusing , happy , sad ,depressing , this is your response to the paintings not just the mood the artist was trying to achieve ?
- How many people are in the two paintings ?
- Is the topic in the two paintings similar or different ?
- Do you like the paintings ? Would you hang them on your wall or do you think that they would look better in a gallery ?
Answer all the questions as fully as you can and make sure that you put them into essay format .
This part should be a minimum of 300 words.
