Problem Scenario: As part of our school’s continual celebration of diversity, our principal has asked fourth grade classes to organize a Native American Celebration honoring different early Native American cultures. You will need to display your knowledge about each culture’s geographical location, as well as the natural resources they used for shelter, food, and clothing. The celebration will include presentation with:
1. A map identifying where native Americans settled, the natural resources they used and products grown
2. A cookbook including regional recipes from different native American cultures
3. A clothing catalog depicting cultural wardrobes
4. Models of shelters/homes representing the different regional cultures
5. A PowerPoint depicting “A Day in the Life” of a Native American Child

On the Day in the Life of a Native American Child
Individual Work: Each student will complete the following:
Pretend that you are a news reporter for the Newnan Times Herald. Write a news article covering our Native American celebration. Include answers to the five “W’s” and the information you learned about the different Native American cultures
Methods of Assessment: List all the methods of assessment used in this unit:
1. Checklists for each group research, project, and presentation observation of group participation
2. Teacher observation of group participation
3. Checklist and rubric for news article

5. Graphic Organizer to be completed by students during celebration on group projects (study guide for test)
