Chagrin Falls Intermediate School: Fifth Grade Clarinet

Chagrin Falls Intermediate School: Fifth Grade Clarinet

August 27, 2015

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to clarinet! Students will meet twice within the six day C.F.I.S rotation. Please make sure to bring all materials to every class.

Students will be assessed throughout the year on identifying pitches, identifying rhythms, identifying music symbols, and playing skills. Grades will be posted on Infinite Campus at the end of each trimester (Achieving *, Progressing P, Area of Concern AC).

Students will need to practice and/or study at home. Assignments will be given to your child each week on a practice chart. Students will be assigned playing exercises and/or music symbol/terms study each week. The amount of time spent on homework will depend on how quickly your child masters the required skills. Please sign your child’s practice chart each week with the number of minutes spent on the assignment. The recommended minimum practice minutes will be listed on your child’s practice chart.

Electing to play an instrument is a full year commitment. Please understand that your child will go through phases of loving to play and having challenging moments that can be frustrating. This is normal and to be expected! Please hang in there and be supportive of your child. I would not have become a music teacher if my parents had not encouraged me to stick with it my first year playing!

The first band concert will be held on Monday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m., in the auditorium. The spring concert will be held on Monday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Dress for both concerts will be dress clothing – no jeans, sweats, or athletic shoes. (More information will follow later in the year.)

I will send home important information each week through email. If you prefer hard copies sent home with your child, please indicate on the form attached. Please fill out and return the attached form by Friday, September 11.
