•Contact ALL of your parents in advance of the season. Uniforms are available at the field house starting Saturday before opening day.
•Ole trainers are involved in both providing drills as well as guiding coaches for games. PLEASE welcome their help and always follow the drills they show you.
•Make sure you have all of your equipment and roster. Additional cold packs are available at the field house if you need more. Kids should bring their own balls, the ones in your coaches bag are spares.
•Game schedules are online on at the Trumbull AYSO website.
•For any game-day conflicts, have any assistant coach MUST ALSO BE A REGISTERED VOLUNTEER, AND TAKE THE ONLINE COURSES! If you do not have an assistant then contact your Division Manager who can make arrangements.
U5 and U6 Program on Saturdays
•U5 and U6 play on Saturdays for one hour, with no practices during the week. A supplemental clinic may be offered on a weekday tba.
•OLE will be on hand for 6 Saturdays to assist U5 and U6 coaches with their skill drills and 3 v 3 games.
•One coach per team is allowed on fieldto help the kids, principally with positioning, passing and sharing the ball. DO NOT OVER-COACH or “joy-stick” your players for everything they do. Let them enjoy their games.
•All coaches must do the “Ball Master” at the games(i.e. hold a spare ball and roll it in to a player whenever the ball goes out of bounds – no throw-ins).SEE PROCEDURES FOR U5/U6 games on the Trumbull AYSO website in the “For Coaches” tab.
GAMES ON SATURDAYS: Please see “PROCEDURES FOR GAMES”for your age group in the “For Coaches”tab on the Trumbull AYSO website. These have important information about how you are expected to conduct your games!
•Rainouts will be posted on the AYSO website at or before 7:00 am Saturday. DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING. PLEASE ALWAYS CHECK THE SITE.Never cancel a game on your own.
•When you arrive at the field gate, pleasecheck the signs for any special announcements.
•PLEASE start games ON TIME. Tell parents to get their kids there 5-10 minutes ahead of time. We have to avoid the ripple effect of late starts.
•NO JEWELRYALLOWED! No taped earrings. ONLY medical alert items can be worn and they must be taped to the body. ALSO, PLAYERS MUST WEAR THE AYSO JERSEY AS THE OUTER GARMENT. NO HOODIES AT ALL! Sweatshirts mustonly be worn UNDER the AYSO jersey.
•NEVER HAVE ANY UNREGISTERED KIDS ON THE PRACTICE OR GAME FIELD. This is an important insurance issue.
•HALF-GAMEMINIMUM PLAY TIME IS AYSO POLICY! Here we ask that no kids can play the whole game until all kids have played at least three quarters of the game. IF a player arrives late, game time can be less. Substitute every several minutes.
•For U5 and U6, coaches are allowed on the game field (one per team) to help the kids, principally with positioning, passing and sharing the ball. SEE YOURSELF AS A TEACHER FIRST AND FOREMOST!
•Do not let your parents coach! They are NOT registered coaches and this carries a liability risk.
•BEPOSITIVE– use CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on opportunities for improvement; point out the good stuff too!
•Make sure your players drink enough fluids. For any minor injuries, USE R.I.C.E.For anything that seems major, let us know at the field house ASAP! We have first aid items there.
•IF any player takes any hard blow to the head, where there can be a risk of concussion, he/she sits out for the rest of the game, NO EXCEPTIONS! DO NOT PLAY DOCTOR and assess the player on your own. Check with the parent during the week to make sure the player is okay, or if there is a problem. IF there is, you MUST let your Division Manager know so we can have a record.
•Do not run up scores. If you get a 4-goal lead, try and pull back discretely.
HAVE FUN!! Remember, you are here for THE KIDS to help meet their needs!
